Mike Hughes stopped all 22 shots as Clearview defeated Washington Township 4-0 to win the second annual NJ/DE Flyers Cup before a partisan Township crowd on Monday night. Hughes was named MVP as he did not surrender a goal in both games he started. Anthony DelleRose from Clearview led the tournament in scoring. Hughes got the start as he has had success against Township this year only giving up one goal during the regular season to the Minutemen. Having lost to Township last week for the Tier I title, Coach Volpio told his team to play their game and forget about last week and play hard, keep skating and good things will happen.

It took about nine minutes for something good to happen but Clearview took advantage of a two-man advantage with six minutes left in the opening period as Nick Ramos scored with Anthony Dellerose getting the assist. Zachary Burkhardt kept the game at 1-0 as he stopped Dellerose on a break and Jeff Todd on a break a few minutes later. Hughes stoned Donovan Haslett for his best save of the night. Trevor Smolsky made it 2-0 late in the period and the View had enough goals to check the game away. Late in the second period Smolsky set-up Mike Diessroth for a 3-0 lead. Township would pull Burkhardt for an extra skater late in the game but Kyle McGovern scored into an empty net to close out the scoring.

Notes: The All –Tournament team consisted of Anthony Dellerose, Brandon Balsama, Chris Cozzan, Joey Freda and Zachary Burkhardt. Congrats to Clearview Coach Volpio and Walters and the entire Clearview team on winning the NJ/DE Flyers Cup.
