Nicholas Simonetti scored three goals and Austin Ponzetti added two as Shawnee defeated Lower Cape May 6-1 and capture the JVB2 Championship. The teams were tied at 1-1 after the first period with Ponzetti scoring one minute into the game and Lower Cape May getting the equalizer in the final ninety seconds on a goal by Ryan Hill. Simonetti and Ponzetti scored second period goals to give Shawnee a 3-1 lead and they never looked back. Brian Guzzi would not surrender another goal and two goals by Simonetti and a power play goal by Stephen Forni in the third period closed out the scoring.

Each year, we are pleased with the league allowing us to recognize several players and a coach and their outstanding contributions they have made for their team. With at least two to three players considered for each category, we have finalized our decision. Alexander Deitch scored three goals and had three assists and Max Guralnick added two goals and three assists as EEW breezed by Shawnee 9-2 in playoff action at Voorhees. Jesse Viggiano chipped in with a goal and two assists. EEW led 3-0 after one and 5-0 early into the second period and never looked back. Deitch scored the first two goals of the game at the six minute mark, both coming on the same shift. Michael Corkery made it 3-0 late in the period for EEW collecting his first goal of the year.

Chris Cozzan from Washington Township had a hat trick and Sam Amon from EEW added two goals as Team Simmonds defeated Team Giroux 9-5 in the Junior-Senior Showcase game played before a packed house at the Skate Zone in Voorhees last night. Despite out-shooting Team Simmonds by 48-35, Team Giroux could not overcome the five goal first period. Before we were settled in our seats it was 3-0 in the first two minutes. Cozzan, playing on a line with teammate Brandon Balsama, who assisted on all three Cozzan goals, got things going on their first shift, Scott Veneziale, from Black Horse deflected a shot by Shawnee’s Alex Churchill and the lead was 2-0.

For the second consecutive year, a live draft was held to select the teams for the upcoming Junior Senior Showcase game to be held Friday, February 6th at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Team Giroux was selected by Cherokee Coach McKay and Riverfront Coach D’Amato and Team Simmonds were selected by Washington Township Coach Glick and EEW Coach Pontonio. Team Giroux won the coin toss and selected Boomer Miller, Team Simmonds went with Cris Cozzan. Here are the rest of the players selected by team:

Shawnee used a three goal second period to break a 1-1 game and propel Shawnee to a 4-1 win over Middle Township. The teams traded goals in the first period with Gavin Seddon giving Middle Township a 1-0 lead just over two minutes into the game. Alex Churchill would tie the game at 1-1 with his first goal of the season. Ryley Bergeson would score the eventual game winner early in the second period.

The nominees have been announced for the 2014-2015 Junior/ Senior Showcase game for the SJHSHL. Each team will have at least one player representing their club. The head coach from Washington Township, EEW and St Joe’s will coach one squad. The other squad will have the head coach from Cherokee, Mainland and Riverfront. Once again we will do a live draft on Thursday, January 29th at approximately 7:00PM. Each team will consist of 12 forwards, 6 defenseman and 3 goalies. In case some players cannot make the game, 3 alternates will be selected for each squad. The game will be played on Friday, February 6th at Skate Zone in Voorhees at 8:05PM. Congratulations to all the nominees!!

As we begin 2015 and head towards the playoffs let’s take a look at the division leaders and where they should finish: American Division: Washington Township has a 3 point lead with two games in hand and has winnable games against Shawnee, EEW and HLV. They would seem to be in the driver’s seat for the top seed in the division. Cherokee is still the 4 time champ and needs to get there offense going if they want a 5th title. Clearview has proved they can play with anybody and could surprise here depending on the goaltending. Moorestown has struggled within the division going 1-6-1.

Jake Pearlstein had three goals and Cody Charyk added two as Shawnee held off Black Horse 6-5. Charyk scored the only goal of the first period for Shawnee as they led just 1-0, but Pearlstein scored two straight goals in the first three minutes of the second period and the lead was 3-0. Brandon Graham would score two straight for Black Horse to make it 3-2 at the nine minute mark. Pearlstein was awarded a penalty shot one minute later and his third goal of the game had Shawnee up 4-2. Charyk added a power play goal in the final two minutes to give Shawnee a 5-2 lead after two.

With Moorestown off to a slow start and struggling to score goals, averaging just over three per game entering tonight’s contest, they responded by going 4-4 on the power play, as they defeated Shawnee 9-1. John Yedman and Nicholas Karlefors-Murphy each had a hat trick to pace the Moorestown offense. Jake Pearlstein scored the lone Shawnee goal, his 18th of the season. Yedman scored the first power play of the night at the nine minute mark and twenty three seconds later it was 2-0 on a goal by Brian Santosuosso. Nathaniel Foster scored his first goal of the season with Santosuosso assisting and the lead was 3-0. Pearlstein would score in the last forty seconds to bring Shawnee to within 3-1 after one period.
