Michael Verdecchio stopped 22 shots as EEW defeated HLV 4-2 in early game action at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Four different players scored for EEW as they got contributions from all their lines. Alex Warner opened the scoring just three minutes into the game as HLV jumped out to a 1-0 lead. EEW would respond less than one minute later as Jesse Viggiano would get his first goal of the year with Andrew Bowen and Max Guralnick getting the assists.

Colin Riera had a goal and two assists to pace HLV over Shawnee 4-1 in Tier II action played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees on Monday night. Riera scored the only goal of the first period just over one minute into the game to give HLV the lead for good. Early in the second period Charles Jones Jr made it 2-0 with Riera and Ron Randall getting the assists.

Christopher Kilcourse had two goals and Scott Veneziale added a goal and two assists as Black Horse defeated Cinnaminson 6-2 in late action at the Skate Zone in Voorhees on Friday night. Black Horse jumped out to a 2- lead after one period on goals by Veneziale and Kilcourse just one minute into the game. Cinnaminson would survive that start thanks to the play of goalie Matt Concowich. After a scoreless second period, Cinnaminson cut the lead to 2-1 as Duke Madara scored in the opening two minutes.

Cherokee opened defense of their SJHSHL title by defeating Clearview 4-1 in the season opener for both teams at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Clearview is moving back into Tier 1 after several successful seasons in Tier II. Boomer Miller led the Chiefs with two goals and Tim Papagno stopped 16 shots. Miller opened the scoring with just under three minutes played to give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead. This should be a big year for Boomer, with his older brother now graduated; he will be counted on for much of the offense if Cherokee wants to win their fifth consecutive title.

Chase Iaconelli and Mackenzie Restle each scored two goals as Mainland won its season opener with an 8-4 defeat of HLV. Mainland jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period and never looked back. Nathan Herring opened the scoring five minutes into the game to put Mainland up 1-0. Less than thirty seconds later Zachary Robbins made it 2-0, with Restle and Charlie Iannerello getting the assists. Restle would notch his first of two late in the period and Mainland was in control at 3-0.

Black Horse and EEW opened the season in Tier II on Monday night and the teams skated to a 4-4 tie. Not knowing how your team will perform and if scoring will be an issue, both teams had contributions as four different players scored goals for each team. It’s that kind of balance that will serve both teams throughout the season. Black Horse broke through first as Scott Veneziale scored at the three minute mark for a 1-0 lead. EEW would score the next two, with Kevin Hall and Justin Bryan getting unassisted goals to give EEW a 2-1 lead after one period.

In what was billed as a “Friendship Series”, a young team named Ladoga from Tula, Russia traveled to the United States to play against our Wings of Steel in sled hockey games at the Virtua Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees, but this journey began a few months ago as USA Hockey reached out to Coach Brake about a reciprocal sponsorship, that being a Russian team would come here and play our kids and we host them and help with their expenses and then our team next year would travel to Russia and they would return the favor.

She must be since she has provided spectacular weather for the Wings of Steel Golf Tournament at Ramblewood Country Club, every year for the last seven years. This event was born of need. See below for the history of Wings of Steel Golf Tournament at Ramblewood. For now, please enjoy this recap of another successful golf outing and the converging of kindness with the relish of a good day of golf. As in the past seven years, the numbers of participants have never been a problem. This year presented a problem in that the registration filled up early and we had the distinct issue of actually being overbooked and had to turn away players.
