The Food Bank of South Jersey sponsors programs to provide food and nutritional education to many in need. With the help from companies and organization within our community, the Food Bank of South Jersey is able to serve individuals and families located in the Gloucester, Camden, Burlington and Salem counties. Just recently, the Kingsway Ice Hockey Team hosted a food drive and became an inspiration to their community.

On Sunday, November 15, 2015 from 10am until 1pm, the Kingsway Ice Hockey Team hosted a food drive. Food drives are extremely important and usually fill the gap by providing important foods which may be in short supply. Many came out to support the drive by donating their time, money and non-perishable food items.

Coach Mike Messina from Kingsway is quoted saying, “We had all of our players and their families out to participate. Over 3 hours we collected 2211 pounds of food and cash donations. Everything collected was delivered to the South Jersey Food Bank. At the delivery, we were told that it was the largest single day drive donation they have ever received. Between food and cash, it equates to 2,863 meals and will go out in time for Thanksgiving. We are very proud of everyone in our organization for taking the time and doing the work to give back to our community.”

Let’s give a big shout-out to the Kingsway Ice Hockey Team and family members!!! What a way to warm the hearts of our neighbors in need. Thanks for raising awareness about hunger in Southern New Jersey.
