Washington Township scored two power play goals and killed off a two man advantage in the third period as they defeated Eastern 4-1 and advanced to the semi-finals in the NJ/DE Flyers Cup. Jeff Horner scored the only goal of the first period as he buried a shot under the crossbar on a feed from Jarret Strickon at the six minute mark of the first period. Eastern would tie the game early in the second period on a goal by Connor Riley. Defensively Township did an excellent job in shutting down top scorer Maxim Kuznetsov, who led the league with 31 goals this year, but was shutout tonight.
Strickon gave Township the lead for good as he wasted no time on a cross ice feed from Jarrett Wharton, on the power play and the lead was 2-1. That lead became 3-1 early in the third period, once again on the power play, Mark DiRenzo ripped a shot from the point and Township was up 3-1. Midway through the period Eastern would have a two man advantage for ninety seconds, a golden opportunity to get back in the game, but failed to capitalize, and Township would add a goal late in the period by Donovan Haslett with Chad Castorina doing the work behind the net to keep the play alive and Township would advance to play Salesianum in the semis.
