Six different players scored goals and Michael Neal stopped 25 shots as Black Horse defeated Williamstown 6-2 to capture the Tier I B championship at the Skate Zone in Voorhees last night. Black Horse jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead on goals by Zach Faust, Dante Riccelli and Christian Corsaro. Early in the second period Williamstown would get on the board as Steve Poulin would score to cut the lead to 3-1. The Braves would have four opportunities on the power play in the period, but Neal kept them off the board. Jeff Leap put home a rebound of a Matt Meldrum shot to give Black Horse a 4-1 lead after two.
Jake McDonald went end-to-end early in the third period to give Black Horse a 5-1 advantage, and the way Neal was playing things looked bleak for the Braves. Dennis Campbell gave the Braves some hope midway through the period going top shelf for the second goal for the Braves , but a power play goal by Zachary Covely with just over five minutes left in the game iced it for Black Horse. Congratulations to Coach Fred, his staff, Rob Vesper and Neil Kovnat on winning the championship.
Notes: Coach Fred felt the difference the last two games were “Neal in nets tonight, probably his best 2 games of the season, beside the Township game, and he carried us along with our speed." Next year’s biggest challenge for Black Horse will be replacing 11 seniors. Now is not the time to worry about that, now is the time to enjoy this year’s accomplishment.
