Jack Ellis and Sam Berger each scored two goals and Jeremy Ambrose added four assists as Cherokee defeated Kingsway 7-3 at Hollydell on Friday night. Coupled with the Vikings loss to Moorestown the Chiefs now have a four point lead in the division. Ellis, elevated to the first line with the Chiefs missing some top players, performed well, scoring the first two goals of the game on feeds from Ambrose, with the goals coming in the first five minutes. Offensively the Chiefs out-shot Kingsway 48-13.
Kingsway would get on the board midway through the period scoring a power play goal with Corey Owens notching his second goal of the season. Patrick Dugan would give the Chiefs a 3-1 lead late in the period with Dustin Patterson and Jake Bianchi assisting. Darren Ambrose and Bianchi would score for the Chiefs in the second period and with a 5-1 lead the lead seemed safe heading into the third period. After Ambrose feed Berger for his first of the night early in the third and a 6-1 lead, Kingsway would score the next two goals as Jason Player and Nicky Bellapigna got Kingsway to within 6-3 with three minutes left. But Berger would ice the game with a late goal and the Chiefs would continue their quest for the top seed in the playoffs.
