Brendan Forrest scored one minute into the overtime period to give the Cherokee Chiefs a 3-2 win over Cherry Hill East in the JVA championship game played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. The game was a very tight checking, intense contest where neither team could gain an advantage. Brian Cutler would give Cherry Hill a 1-0 lead in the first but goals by Kameron Katsanos and Connor Ray gave the Chiefs a 2-1 lead late in the second period. Cutler would put home his second of the night late in the period and we were tied at 2-2.

Chiefs goalie Jake Stone made several big saves in the third period, especially late in the period as Cherry Hill had consecutive power plays, but it was the play of Stone that kept Cherokee in the game and allowed for the overtime. Forrest made no mistake as he was down low and put home a rebound of a shot by Ray and the Chiefs were the champs. The ever so stoic and calm head coach Dave Sabol, when I congratulated and said he had saved the Cherokee club as his was the only team that finished the job, he just shrugged his shoulders and smiled. Congrats to Coach Sabol and his staff on the championship.
