Mainland rallied from a 5-2 deficit early in the third period scoring four straight goals, three coming on the power play as they defeated HLV 6-5 and reached the JVB Championship game. The first period was all Mainland as they led 2-0 on goals by Owen Haugan and Jim Murray. The second period was all HLV as they tallied four goals, with Rob Pensabene, Daniel Flagg, Julian Jiminez and Daniel Plunkett scored and took a 4-2 lead into the third period. Nick Garbarino scored in the first minute to push the lead to 5-2 and HLV seemed in control.

Cherry Hill East used strong defense and solid goaltending to defeat HLV 2-1 and win the Tier II championship once again. This is the third year in a row for the Cougars. Most of the game was tight checking and strong defense on both sides as neither wanted to make a mistake. Dylan Altomonte scored six minutes into the game to give Cherry Hill a 1-0 lead as his shot from the point through a screen found the net. That lead lasted less than two minutes as HLV would respond with a goal by Pierce Wickenden as he would be planted on the doorstep and put home a rebound of a shot by Tyler Grey to tie the game at 1-1.

After playing fifty-five minutes of hockey, three periods and two overtimes, HLV and Clearview were still tied, finally Nick Kruzdlo a defenseman, scored the only goal in the shootout to send HLV into the Championship round against Cherry Hill East. Kruzdlo not known for his scoring had just one goal during the regular season but he was able to get one by Clearview goalie Ross Higgins who stopped 42 shots. Thomas Rockey scored a power play goal at the seven minute mark to give the View a 1-0 lead heading into the second period. Bradley Davis would score a short-handed goal five minutes into the second period to tie the game for HLV at 1-1.

HLV fired forty-seven shots and built a 6-0 lead through two periods as they went on to defeat Mainland 6-2 in a Tier II elimination game. Tyler Gray led the offense with two goals. HLV will now meet Clearview with the winner moving on to play Cherry Hill East. HLV jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead on goals by Brady Swain in the first minute of the game and Gray scoring four minutes later for a 2-0 lead. Midway through the period HLV capitalized on the power play as Sam Swain scored to make it 3-0.

We are pleased with the league allowing us to recognize several players and a coach and their outstanding contributions they have made for their team. With at least two to three players considered for each category, we have finalized our decision. The tradition continues here at SJIceHockey as we honor the best of 2018-2019 season in the SJHSHL. Jake Frankenfield scored eighteen seconds into overtime to give Team Simmonds a 5-4 win over Team Giroux in the Junior-Senior showcase game played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees last night. Frankenfield had two goals on the night and won the game’s MVP, donated and presented by Training Aspects Ki Vaks and Rob Jost. Team Giroux took a 2-0n lead on goals by Austin Wilk and Sam Libetti. Team Simmonds would respond with goals from Ryan Feist late in the first period and seconds later a tying goal by Anthony Poppalardo. Team Simmonds would take a 3-2 lead as Mike Liberty from Mainland would score in the second period.

The draft was held last night for the Junior-Senior Showcase game which will be held this Sunday night at the SkateZone in Voorhees at 7:25. Coach McKay from Cherokee won the right to pick first and he choose Jeremy Ambrose. Coach Glick selected Sam Libetti; it was the first time that two players from the same team, Cherokee were picked first by each team. Listed below in order are the teams, Team Simmonds is Coach McKay and Team Giroux is Coach Glick:

Nick Manning stopped all 20 shots as HLV defeated Cherry Hill East 2-0 and moved one point ahead of Clearview for first place in Tier II. Matt Kilkenny would score the only goal Manning would need at the three minute mark of the first period, it was Kilkenny’s seventh of the season, each team would have a power play opportunity but neither could capitalize. Samuel Mohnacs would make it 2-0 late in the second period as Brady Swain and Samuel Swain got the assists.

HLV entered the third period trailing 3-1 against Clearview and would score two goals in the first six minutes to earn a 3-3 tie on senior night for the View. HLV would dominate the first period in shots-14-2 but the View took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Steve Lento, his seventh of the season. That lead became 2-0 early in the second period as Chase Dyar connected at the three minute mark. HLV would get on the board three minutes later as Pierce Wickenden scored his eighth of the season to make it 2-1. Thomas Rockey scored in the final five minutes to give the View a 3-1.

The nominees for the 2018-2019 Junior-Senior Showcase game have been released. The game will be played on Sunday, January 27th at the Voorhees Skate Zone at 7:00. Tickets are $5. On Thursday, January 24th we will conduct a live draft on SJIceHockey.com beginning at 7:00. The coaches will be Scott McKay from Cherokee and Mike Glick from Washington Township. Each coach must select at least one player from each team. Please come out and support these players! Congratulations to all the nominees. Here are your 2018-2019 nominees...
