All, as all of us can agree, we cannot wait until 2020 is over and as we navigate into 2021, we hope to resume some of our normalcy. With Covid-19 ramping up again and the numbers on the rise, we feel as a league that the risk is too great for our teams and we have decided to cancel the 2020/2021 season. Believe me we have met numerous times as a board over the last few months and our hope was to have a shortened season as the last thing we wanted to do was cancel the season, especially for the seniors.

Last night the league had a meeting with all the club reps to discuss the options for the upcoming 2020-2021 hockey season. First, as of now USA hockey is only allowing 25 people max in an ice rink. This includes 10 players from each team, one coach for each team, two referees, a scorekeeper and zero fans. Now this could change down the road, but that is the rule as it stands right now which would mean that the remaining skaters would have stay in the locker rooms. Not an ideal situation, but one we might have to accept.

In accordance with Governor Wolf's mandate that all Pennsylvania schools will remained closed to in-student learning for the remainder of the academic year, the Flyers Cup Committee has made the unfortunate decision to cancel the remainder of the 2020 Flyers Cup tournament as well as the Pennsylvania State Championships. This was certainly not an easy decision, but given the current and ongoing status of COVID-19, along with several other factors, we collectively feel that this is the unfortunate necessary option for the safety and well being of our players, coaches, officials, and communities as we follow the direction of many other scholastic, national, and international events.

Thomas Caputo scored three goals and Nicholas Fonseca added two as Shawnee handled Appoquinimink 7-3 in opening round action of the Flyers Cup held in Voorhees. Shane Hindt gave Appoquinimink a 1-0 lead in the opening two minutes of the game; Caputo would tie the score at 1-1 less than two minutes later. The second period was all Renegades as they seized control of the game launching 14 shots and scoring three goals. First on the power play, Michael Wolverton gave Shawnee a 2-1 lead at the seven-minute mark. Just over three minutes later Fonseca made it 3-1 on a feed from Dylan DiGrazio. Fonseca would get his second of the night in the closing seconds and Shawnee was in command heading into the third period at 4-1.

John Lee scored two goals as Salesianum defeated Egg Harbor Township 5-2 in the opening round of the NJ/DE Flyers cup tournament at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. After a scoreless first period Caelon Driggs gave the Sallies a 1-0 lead scoring in the opening minute. The lead became 2-0 four minutes later with James Bell getting the goal. EHT would cut the lead to 2-1 on a goal by Blake Gray at the five minute mark and five minutes later would get the equalizer from Jacob Feliciano. The Sallies would retake the lead on a late goal from Frank Pallante with Driggs and Bell assisting.

Harrison Rauh scored at the eight minute mark of the first overtime as Washington Township upset top seed Eastern 7-6 in the opening round of the Flyers Cup at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Kyle McGarvey had a hat trick and Andrew McGinley added two goals to lead the Township offense. Luke Ravitz led Eastern with two goals. The teams were tied at 2-2 after the first period, with Sean Pomerantz and Jordan Stein scoring for the Vikings. McGarvey had both Township goals. After Ravitz gave Eastern a 3-2 lead early in the second period, Township would score twice in a ninety second span, both goals coming from McGinley down low and a 4-3 lead. Late in the period McGarvey would complete his hat trick and Township would take a 5-3 lead into the third period.

Nicholas Jarmain scored in the first two minutes of the second overtime period to give Moorestown a 3-2 win over Cherokee in the opening round of the NJ/DE Flyers Cup played in Voorhees. After a scoreless first period, Moorestown would get a pair of goals from Elias Sulpizio midway through the second period to take a 2-0 lead. Cherokee would get a goal from Pat Dugan early in the third period as he scored short-handed to cut the lead to 2-1. Four minutes later Brendan Forest would score on the power play to tie the score at 2-2.

Nicholas Fonseca had a hat trick, including the game winner in overtime as Shawnee defeated Washington Township 4-3 and capture the JVA Championship. The teams traded goals in the first period with Fonseca scoring in the opening minute and Niko Durnan getting the first of his two on the night to tie the game at 1-1 in the final two minutes of the period. Goals by Fonseca and Scott Minshall twenty-one seconds apart early in the second period gave Shawnee a 3-1 lead. Matthew Holdofsky with bring Township to within 3-2 late in the period.

Rocco McCullen scored early in the first overtime as Clearview defeated Kingsway 2-1 in the JVB Championship game played in Voorhees. Kingsway had taken a 1-0 lead into the third period with the lone goal coming short-handed late in the first period from Dylan Casey. Clearview would tie the game at 1-1 on a goal by AJ Nocito five minutes into the third period. Clearview would have a power play opportunity with about five minutes left in regulation, but failed to capitalize. Early into the overtime, McCullen would bury his chance and the View would celebrate their victory. Congratulations to the Clearview staff on their win.

Dylan Casey scored early into the first overtime as Kingsway upset Riverfront in JVB playoff action and will move into the finals on Sunday. Casey, who scored twice, opened the scoring just twenty-two seconds into the game as the Dragons got off to an early lead. That lead grew to 2-0 midway through the period when Brendan Kelly scored for Kingsway. Riverfront would cut the lead in half at the ten-minute mark taking advantage of the power play as Dominic Giannetto scored and the lead was 2-1.

Hunter Fratttaroli stopped 28 shots as Clearview hung on to defeat Mainland 3-2 in JVB action played at the Igloo in Mt Laurel. After a scoreless first period, Clearview broke out on top with AJ Nocito scoring at the five-minute mark and a 1-0 lead. Marc Arsenis would tie the score at 1-1 for Mainland scoring less than four minutes later. Cooper Yeager would give Clearview a 2-1 lead scoring with less than four minutes left in the period. Vincent Marco would give Clearview some breathing room as he scored five minutes into the third period and the View led 3-1.

Kristian Massanova scored two goals, including one short-handed as the Eastern defeated Cherokee 4-0 and won the Tier I Championship. The Vikings went undefeated in the tournament. Maxwell Brzozowski stopped all 15 shots in getting the shutout. After a scoreless first period, Eastern broke out on top as Luke A Riley scored late in the period; his second of the playoffs and Eastern had a 1-0 lead. Less than two minutes later, the Chiefs would have a chance to tie the game on the power play but Massanova would score short-handed and the Vikings took a 2-0 lead into the third period.

Trailing 3-1 with three minutes left in the third period, Cherry Hill scored twice in the final two minutes to tie the game, then one in the first two minutes of overtime as they defeated Clearview 4-3 and clinched the Tier 2 Championship, their fourth in a row. Mario Leone scored the only goal of the first period as Clearview led 1-0. Midway through the second period Hunter Colella made it 2-0 and the View, despite being outshot, looked to take that lead into the third period, but Elliott Schon would get the first of his two on the night with just 38 seconds left in the period and suddenly it was 2-1. Thomas Rockey would restore the two-goal lead for Clearview at the six-minute mark and a 3-1 lead.

Needing a win to force a deciding game and playing on the road, Cherry Hill East faced a tough task, but they responded carrying the play for the first two periods as they defeated Clearview 3-2 in front of a packed house at Hollydell. Putting to rest the myth that East fans won’t travel, the crowd was pretty equal as far as turnout. East dominated the first period in shots at 15-8 and took a 1-0 lead with less than four minutes left in the period as John Gallen was able to get one by Logan Graham. The View would respond exactly three minutes later with Mario Leone bursting in on Brice Sullivan and his shot tied the score at 1-1.

With at least two to three players considered for each category, we have finalized our decision. The tradition continues here at SJIceHockey as we honor the best of 2019-2020 season in the SJHSHL. Jakob Mutschler scored two goals as Cherry Hill East defeated HLV 5-1 and eliminated HLV from the playoffs. East will now move into the finals against Clearview. East took a 2-0 lead after the first period on an early goal by Elliott Schon and a short-handed goal by Jacob Holland right before the buzzer. Mutschler would get the second shorty for East at the five minute mark to put East up 3-0. HLV would get their only goal with five minutes left in the period with Andrew Hatzold getting credit and Brady Swain and Daniel Flagg assisting. Goals by Tristan Laperriere and Mutschler’s second closed out the scoring.

Cherokee built a 4-0 lead and held on for a 4-2 win against Egg Harbor Township in Tier I playoff action at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. The loss eliminated EHT and moved the Chiefs into the Championship round against Eastern. Patrick Dugan put the Chiefs on the board at the eight-minute mark on a nice feed from Colin Devine from behind the net. Jack Ellis, the Chiefs leading goal scorer during the regular season, returned to game action after missing a few games due to injury and made an impact as he scored on the power play to put the Chiefs up 2-0 late in the first period. Early in the second period, Devine would make it 3-0 as the Chiefs once again capitalized on the power play. Late in the period on a scramble, in front, Anthony Breen scored for Cherokee and the Chiefs led 4-0 after two periods.

The Flyers Cup selection show was broadcast live on YouTube last night and for the NJ/DE Flyers Cup the SJHSHL had six teams invited which was led by defending champion and top seeded Eastern Vikings. Also invited was Cherokee, Moorestown, Shawnee, Egg Harbor Township and Washington Township. All games will be played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. The tournament starts on Tuesday, March 10th with Eastern and Washington Township playing at 6:00PM. Moorestown and Cherokee will play at 6:15PM.

HLV jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first period and went on to a 6-3 win over Mainland in late Tier II playoff action at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. The loss eliminated Mainland from the double elimination tournament. HLV will now play Cherry Hill East on Monday with the winner going to the championship round against Clearview. HLV’S top JVB player Nick Avgousti opened the scoring five minutes into the game and just over one minute later Jacob Mohnacs scored for a 2-0 lead. HLV would carry much of the offensive play launching 14 shots. Late in the period Kevin Yang would make it 3-0 as HLV seemed in control.

Egg Harbor Township trailed 4-0 midway through the second period and things looked bleak for the Eagles, but a furious rally gave them a 5-4 win in overtime against Washington Township at Hollydell on Friday night. The loss eliminated Township from the playoffs. EHT will now face Cherokee on Monday night with the winner facing Eastern in the Championship round. Township led 2-0 after the first period on goals by Harrison Rauh and Andrew McGinley. Goals by Mike Guarracino and Niko Durnan twenty-three seconds apart had the lead to 4-0 and seemingly safe for Township. Riley Rudolph started the comeback for EHT scoring at the eight minute mark, then with the period winding down, Ryan Robertson scored for EHT and now suddenly it was 4-2 heading into the third period.

Kristopher Zapata scored with 51 seconds left in the third period as Eastern defeated Cherokee 4-3 in Tier I playoff action in Voorhees. Ryan Connor scored all three Cherokee goals. Eastern now moves into the Championship round, next Friday February 28th. Connor gave the Chiefs an early 1-0 lead scoring just over one minute into the game. The Vikings would respond on the power play as Ryan Karbach scored at the seven-minute mark to tie the game at 1-1. Just over two minutes later Zapata would give the Vikings a 2-1 lead converting a feed from Luke Riley.

Goals by Nick Zane and Connor Reagan in the first five minutes gave the View a 2-0 lead. Thomas Rockey made it 3-0 at the eight-minute mark, then with a chance to get one back on the power play, East would give up a short-handed goal in the final minute of the period as Mario Leone scored and the lead was 4-0. Leone would score his second of the night early in the second period as Clearview capitalized on the power play to increase the lead to 5-0.

Michael Tussey stopped 27 shots as Washington Township defeated Moorestown 2-1 in playoff action in Voorhees. The loss eliminated Moorestown from the double elimination tournament. Offensively Township started slowly as they were out-shot 14-4 in the first period, but Tussey would just yield one, as Nick Jarmaine would score on a shot from the slot. Township would tie the score at 1-1 when Nicholas Cimorelli would see his shot from the point go through a screen and into the net, so despite being outplayed Township entered the second period all even.

Egg Harbor Township scored twice in the final three minutes of the third period and rallied to beat Shawnee 4-3 in Tier I action played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. After Shawnee took a 2-0 lead after the first period on goals by Matthew Donegan and Michael Wolverton, EHT would get on the board at the five minute mark of the second period with Riley Rudolph getting the goal to cut the lead to 2-1. Early in the third period, EHT would be on the power play and William Bahnak would tie the score at 2-2. Less than thirty seconds later Shawnee would retake the lead on a goal by Nick Fonseca at 3-2.

With their season on the line and trailing 2-1 after two periods, Washington Township would score twice in the third period to edge Kingsway 3-2 in playoff action played at Hollydell on Wednesday night. The loss eliminated Kingsway from the double elimination tournament. After a scoreless first period which saw Township dominate in shots 17-6, but thanks to strong goaltending from Kingsway goalie Mike Lieze we entered the second period all even. Kingsway would break through first as Aaron Pape scored at the six-minute mark converting a turnover down low and a 1-0 lead. With just over four minutes left in the period Andrew McGinley would bury a shot up top from just inside the circle and we were tied at 1-1.

Trailing 4-3 late in the third period Clearview would get the tying goal from Thomas Rockey on the power play and then the game winning goal from Gavin Reagan in overtime, again on the power play as the View defeated Mainland 5-4 in Tier II playoff action at Voorhees. Rockey would score the lone goal of the first period as the View led 1-0. Robert Conlan and Owen Haugan would give Mainland a 2-1 lead scoring goals in the first four minutes of the second period. Steve Lento would tie the game at 2-2 for the View scoring at the seven-minute mark. Just fifteen seconds later the View took the lead as Mario Leone scored.

Four different players scored as Cherry Hill East defeated St Joe’s 4-1 and is headed towards a show down with Clearview in the Tier II double elimination tournament. Deaglan Kelly scored the only goal of the first period as St Joe’s led 1-0. That lead held up until late in the second period when Elliott Schon would tie the game at 1-1 with just over on minute left in the period. Forty-one seconds later Brian Cutler would score the eventual game winner with Joe Papa and Jacob Holland getting the assists.

The Vikings would jump out to a 4-0 lead less than seven minutes into the first period. After Luke Ravitz would connect just over one minute into the game on a feed from Massanova, goals by Kristopher Zapata and Massanova forty-four seconds apart had the lead to 3-0. The lead became 4-0 as the Vikings capitalized on the power play with Ethan Raeuber scoring and Luke Riley and Sean Pomerantz getting the assists.

The game started out with high electricity in front of a packed house at the Skate Zone in Voorhees and by the end of the game, which Cherokee won 3-1, the crowd was down to just parents and a few students. Both teams came out with high energy and emotion as the teams combined for 29 shots in the first period with both goalies, Keith MacGregor for Shawnee and Andrew Lavdas for Cherokee, on top of their game. The lone goal of the period came from Thomas Caputo as his shot from the slot just trickled past Lavdas and a 1-0 lead.

Cherry Hill East JVA scored four goals in the second period and went on to defeat Washington Township 5-0 in Sunday night JVA action in Voorhees. After a scoreless first period Cherry Hill broke through as Tyler Williams scored his second of the season five minutes into the second period. Just thirty-two seconds later Justin Moroney made it 2-0 putting home his ninth of the year, tied for team high. Township was assessed a five-minute major and Cherry Hill would capitalize as Joseph Papa would score two goals in a span of three minutes and the lead was now 4-0.

Konnor Savvas and Thomas Rockey each scored two goals as Clearview opened its playoff run with a 10-0 win over PPACS. The View scored five goals in the first period and never looked back. Vincent Marco opened the scoring just two minutes in as his shot from deep found the net. Hunter Colella would deflect a point shot by Steven Lento midway through the period and a 2-0 lead. Goals by Rockey, Savvas and Robert Gehringer had the lead to 5-0 after one period.

Deaglan Kelly scored two goals and Joshua Lindquist pitched a shutout as St Joe’s opened the playoffs with a 5-0 win over Riverfront in action played at Hollydell. Kelly scored the lone goal of the first period, on the power play as St Joe’s took a 1-0 lead. Late in the second period, Maxx Covely finished off a 2-on-1 with Cooper Root to put St Joe’s up 2-0. Just fifteen seconds later Kelly put home a rebound of a shot by Devin Lawless-Gattone and the lead was 3-0.

Goals by Brady Swain, Tyler Brosius and Ralph Triboletti powered Team Giroux to a 3-0 lead in the first period and strong goaltending helped Team Giroux defeat Team Oskar 4- 2 in the 2019-2020 Junior-Senior Showcase game played in Voorhees. Team Giroux led by Coach Amon from Cherry Hill and Coach Vulpio from Clearview never trailed as Swain and Brosius scored moments apart for a 2-0 lead. Triboletti made it 3-0 from down low, as Team Giroux was out to make a statement. Erika Nolfi got the start in nets for Team Giroux and was strong in goal. Corey Owens put Team Oskar on the board late in the period to cut the lead to 3-1. Midway through the second period Kristian Massanova would bring Team Oskar to within 3-2 scoring from the slot.

Andrew McGinley’s second goal of the game with less than one minute left in the contest gave the Minutemen a 3-2 win over Kingsway in the season finale for both clubs. The teams traded goals in the first period with Kyle McGarvey scoring at the six minute mark and Kingsway tying the game on a goal by Colin Kupniewski just over one minute later. Nick Bellapigna would give Kingsway a 2-1 lead late in the second period, scoring on the power play and the Dragons took the lead into the third period.

Logan Graham stopped all 17 shots and Connor Reagan had a natural hat trick as Clearview defeated St Joe’s 6-0 in the season finale for both clubs at Hollydell on Friday night. Clearview was very offensive in the opening period launching 18 shots, with three finding the net. Gavin Reagan opened the scoring at the nine minute mark, then Connor would score two goals forty-five seconds apart to give the View a 3-0 lead after one period. The second period the View would continue the pressure, getting another 15 shots and Reagan would complete his hat trick at the twelve minute mark and a 4-0 lead.

This year for the Junior-Senior Showcase, the selection committee decided to name the two teams Team Oskar and Team Giroux. The home team, Team Giroux (players from Tier II), will wears their white jerseys from their team and Team Oskar (Tier I players) will be skating in their dark away jerseys from their team. Cherokee rallied from a two goal deficit, twice as they earned a 3-3 tie with Washington Township in late game action at Voorhees. Andrew McGinley and Kyle McGarvey scored first period goals to give Township a 2-0 lead after the first period. Cherokee would get the only goal of the second period as Nathan Bridgers got credit for his second of the season. Township would capitalize on the power play early in the third period as Giovanni Torrie scored his third goal of the season and Township once again led by two at 3-1.

Clearview rallied from a 2-1 deficit after one to score four goals in the second period en-route to a 5-4 win over HLV. Mario Leone led the View scoring twice; Brady Swain led HLV with two goals as well. HLV jumped out to a 2-0 lead as Nick Avgousti and Swain scored goals just over one minute apart midway through the first period. Leone cut the deficit to 2-1 with just over six minutes left in the period. Connor Reagan would get his 17th of the season two minutes into the second period to tie the game at 2-2. Goals by Leone and Vince Marco ninety seconds apart gave the View their first lead at 4-2 midway though the second.

Riley scored an early power play goal to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead. Moorestown would tie the score at 1-1 Brian Bytof notched his second of the season. The Quakes would go in front on a goal by Elias Sulpizio, but Vincent Roustas would connect on the power play and we headed into the second period knotted at 2-2. Riley and Luke Ravitzwould score goals two minutes apart in the second period to give the Vikings a 4-2 lead.

Colin Sabatino scored three goals as Riverfront defeated PPACS 7-2 in Tier II action played at Voorhees on Monday night. Brennen McCarty scored the only goal of the first period as Riverfront capitalized on the power play. Sabatino scored twice in a span of three minutes giving Riverfront a 3-0 lead midway through the second period. James Duccilli would put PPACS on the board scoring his third goal of the season to make it 3-1. Sabatino would complete his hat trick late in the period and Riverfront would take a 4-1 lead into the third period.

Max Brzozowski stopped all 25 shots as Eastern defeated Cherokee 3-0 in late game action in Voorhees. With the win Eastern clinched the top spot in Tier I for the double elimination tournament. After a very entertaining and scoreless first period, in which Brzozowski stopped twelve shots, Eastern capitalized on the power play early in the second period as Kristian Massanova converted a pass from Ryan Karbach down low and a 1-0 lead. It would turn out to be the game winner, despite some good chances in the second and a power play opportunity Cherokee could not get one by Brzozowski.

Nick Fonseca opened the scoring for Shawnee at the eight-minute mark but Ellis would tie the game just about three minutes later and we headed into the second period all even at 1-1. Ellis would give the Chiefs a 2-1 lead early in the second period scoring his team high 12th of the season. Brendan Forest would put the Chiefs up 3-1 with four minutes left in the second. Shawnee would then have two power play opportunities to try and get closer, but Jacob Stone in nets for the Chiefs, kept them off the board and Cherokee took a 3-1 lead into the third period.

The nominees for the 2019-2020 Junior-Senior Showcase game have been released. The game will be played on Monday, February 3rd at the Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees, NJ at 7:20PM. Tickets are $5. This year we are trying something different as the Tier I selections will play the Tier II selections.  The Tier I team which will be coached by Eastern and Cherokee will play against the Tier II team coached by Clearview and Cherry Hill. We will conduct the draft next week and it will appear as part of our Mike & Mike podcast with the episode to be posted by Friday, January 24th. Congratulations to all the nominees. Tristan Laperriere scored three goals and Jacob Holland scored twice as Cherry Hill East defeated Mainland 7-6 in Tier II action in Voorhees. Robert Conlan led Mainland with two goals. Cherry Hill jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one on goals by Holland and a short-handed goal by Brian Cutler. Laperriere would make it 3-0 at the four-minute mark of the second period before Mainland would mount a charge scoring three goals in a span of five minutes. First Ralph Triboletti scored on the power play to make it 3-1. Then Conlan scored on the power play again and Mainland trailed 3-2. Both goals coming on a two-man advantage. After another Cherry Hill penalty, Michael Liberty would tie the game for Mainland scoring the third consecutive power play goal.

Patrick Dugan scored with less than four minutes left in the game as Cherokee tied Moorestown 2-2 in late game Tier I action played in Voorhees. Dugan scored both goals for the Chiefs and raised his season total to nine. After a scoreless first period Moorestown broke out on top with Samuel Byrd-Leitner scoring three minutes into the second period. Cherokee would respond right off the center ice face-off as Dugan went right down the middle and scored and we were tied at 1-1.

Tyler Seeton scored two goals, including the game winner with ninety-one seconds left as Riverfront defeated PPACS 3-2 last night at Voorhees. After a scoreless first period, PPACS would take a 1-0 lead in the opening minute of the second period as Nick Fiore would get his ninth of the season and a 1-0 lead. Riverfront would respond forty-five seconds later as Seeton would get his first of the night with DJ May assisting. Anthony Machion would give Riverfront its first lead of the night at the eight-minute mark with Francis Gallagher and Brayden McFadden getting the assists.

Michael Henry had a hat trick, two of the goals coming short-handed and Joshua Lindquist stopped 36 shots as St Joe’s defeated HLV 3-2 in Tier II action played at the Skate Zone. Henry’s first goal came late in the first period with Deaglan Kelly and Robert Davis getting the assists. Brady Swain would tie the game at 1-1 at the nine-minute mark of the second period with Tyler Grey and Daniel Flagg getting the helpers. Late in the period HLV had an opportunity on the power play to take the lead but Henry scored short-handed and St Joe’s took a 2-1 lead into the third period.

Trailing 3-1 with four minutes left in the game Shawnee got goals from Mike Wolverton and David Hoftiezer to earn Shawnee a 3-3 tie against Washington Township on senior night at Hollydell. Three seniors combined on the lone goal of the first period as Andrew McGinley scored his team high tenth of the season with Harrison Rauh and Andrew Matlack getting the assists. That goal came just twenty-two seconds into the game. Township would control most of the second period as they out-shot Shawnee 21-4, but thanks to strong goaltending from Keith McGregor, Township would only score one goal that coming from Niko Durnan late in the period. Township would extend their lead to 2-0 lead after two.

Six different player scored for Eastern as they defeated Shawnee 6-2 in a battle of Tier I teams at the Skate Zone. The Vikings improved to 9-1 in their last 10 games after starting the season at 0-1-2. Luke Riley gave the Vikings an early 1-0 lead scoring his fifth goal of the season just two minutes into the first. Midway through the period with Eastern down two men, Kristopher Zapata, would score a short-handed goal and the Vikings led 2-0. Still on the back end of the advantage Shawnee would get one back on the power play as Thomas Caputo scored to cut the lead to 2-1. Sean Pomerantz would answer for Eastern just over one minute later and the Vikings would take a 3-1 lead into the second period.

Cherry Hill East had little trouble with PPACS winning 10-0 in late game action at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. The Cougars are riding an eleven game unbeaten streak, 9-0-2 ahead of their showdown with first place Clearview, Friday night at 9:30 in Voorhees. The Cougars put up a seven spot in the first period with Elliot Schon scoring a hat trick. John Gallen opened the scoring in the first minute and after Schon netted two goals in a seventeen second span, Brian Cutler would get the first of his two goals on the night, this one coming on the only power play advantage of the evening and a 4-0 lead.

Deaglan Kelly and Michael Henry each had a hat trick as St Joe’s defeated HLV 7-5 in Tier II action played in Voorhees. Joshua Lindquist stopped 36 shots as HLV out-shot St Joe’s 41-14. Nick Avgousti opened the scoring for HLV four minutes into the opening period as HLV led 1-0. Kelly would tie the game at 1-1 less than one minute later. Corey Price and Zachary Dean would set up Matthew Lavelle for his second goal of the season late in the period and St Joe’s took a 2-1 lead into the second period. HLV would get a goal from Samuel Mohnacs early in the second period but Henry would score three goals in a span of five minutes to take a 5-2 lead, with two goals coming short-handed. Avgousti would connect on the power play, his second of the night in the final minute of the period and HLV trailed 5-3 entering the third.

Jacob Bianchi scored two goals and Jacob Stone stopped 23 shots as Cherokee defeated Kingsway 4-1 in Tier I action at Voorhees on Monday night. Bianchi scored the only goal of the first period as the Chiefs led just 1-0 after one. Aaron Pape scored a power play goal for Kingsway to tie the score at 1-1 four minutes into the second period. Less than three minutes later Bianchi netted the go ahead goal on a nice feed from Darren Ambrose. Stone would be tested in nets as Kingsway would have a 2 man advantage for ninety seconds but could not get one past Stone.

Robert DiDonato stopped 24 shots and five different players scored as Washington Township defeated Cherokee 5-1 in Tier I action played on Friday night at Hollydell. Township out-shot Cherokee 41-25 as they kept the pressure up all night in by far their best performance of the season. Goals by Kyle McGarvey and Mike Guarracino, both coming late in the first gave Township a 2-0 lead after one period. Andrew McGinley would make it 3-0 early in the second period. Cherokee would get a late goal from Darren Ambrose to get to within 3-1 after two periods.

Kristian Massanova scored four goals, Constantine Roustas and Jordan Stein added two each as Eastern defeated Kingsway 8-2 in Tier I action played at Hollydell. The Vikings broke through first as Massanova scored a short-handed goal at the five minute mark, seconds later while still on the power play Kingsway would tie the game at 1-1 as Dominic Mendek got his second of the season. Goals by Massanova, Stein and Roustas in a span of three minutes and Eastern took a 4-1 lead into the second period. Roustas’ second of the night four minutes into the second period had the lead to 5-1.

St. Joe’s led 5-1 with just under four minutes remaining and withstood a three goal outburst by Clearview in the final three minutes and held on for the 5-4 win. Clearview had pulled the goalie and had a power play in the final seconds and would put the puck in the net right after the horn sounded but the goal did not count and St. Joe’s had the upset. The View started slow as St. Joe’s led by Deaglan Kelly’s three goals played inspired hockey throughout and got a strong effort in nets from Joshua Lindquist. The teams traded goals in the first period with Kelly scoring a power play goal at the eight minute mark and three minutes later Mario Leone tying the game for Clearview.

William Bahnak scored four goals as Egg Harbor Township defeated Washington Township 7-6 in Tier I action contested at Hollydell on Friday night. After Bahnak scored with five minutes left in the period, Township would get goals from Nico Durnan and Joe Mosco in the final four minutes to take a 2-1 lead into the second period. EHT would score five goals in the second period. After Bahnak tied the game at 2-2, Jacob Feliciano gave EHT their first lead scoring at the seven-minute mark. Bahnak next goal made it 4-2 less than two minutes later. Back came Township as goals by Andrew McGinley on the power play and Mike Guarracino seconds later had the game tied at 4-4.

Trailing 4-1 with ten minutes left in the game Kingsway would rally to close to within 4-3 but could not get the equalizer as they lost to Moorestown on senior night 4-3. After a scoreless first period Kingsway broke on top first scoring twenty-nine seconds into the second period on the power play as Nick Bellapigna would tally his team high 10th goal of the season. Moorestown would tie the game less than one minute later as Matt Marzo scored and the game was 1-1. Kevin Wildish would give the Quakes a 2-1 lead about five minutes later and Moorestown took a 2-1 lead into the third period.

Clearview got four goals from Connor Reagan and two goals each Hunter Colella and Chris Geary as they scored early and often in defeating PPACS 13-2 on senior night played at Hollydell this past Friday night. After Reagan scored less than two minutes into the game, The View would net four goals in a span of two minutes to break open the game. Goals by Gavin Reagan and Colella thirty-nine seconds apart had the lead to 3-0. Then goals by Connor Reagan and Konnor Savavas twenty-five seconds apart pushed the lead to 5-0 less than six minutes played.

Luke A. Riley scored two goals as the Eastern Vikings defeated Washington Township 5-1 in Tier I action in Voorhees. Sean Pomerantz scored the only goal of the first period with Township on the power play; Jordan Stein would set up Pomerantz for the short-handed goal and a 1-0 lead after one. Riley would connect on the power play six minutes into the second period and Eastern led 2-0. Just about two minutes later Township would get a goal from Michael Guarracino to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Cherokee JVA squad defeated Moorestown 5-2 in an early game at Voorhees on Monday night. The Chiefs jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Aidan Bruccoliere and Ryan Grace. Grace’s goal came on a breakaway with less than three minutes left in the opening period. Moorestown would get a power play goal from Samuel Selverian with less than four minutes left in the second period and the Quakes were back in the game. Early in the third period Nikolas Flitter would deflect a point shot by Liam Alexander to give the Chiefs a 3-1 lead.

Samuel Byrd-Leitner scored five minutes into the third period to snap a 2-2 game and Moorestown hung on for a 3-2 win over Kingsway in Tier I action at the Igloo. The Dragons jumped out to a 2-0 lead five minutes into the game with Aaron Pape scoring both goals. The first one came in the opening minute of the game and then Pape connected on the power play, and the Dragons led 2-0. Elias Sulpizio cut the lead to 2-1 at the nine minute mark but Kingsway would take the lead into the second period.

Thomas Caputo would score the lone goal of the first period to give Shawnee a 1-0 lead. The Vikings would tie the game at 1-1 as Sean Pomerantz would score a short-handed goal, his 5th of the season. Shawnee would have two power play opportunities in the third period but failed to capitalize, until late in the game. Keith MacGregor stopped 25 shots for Shawnee and kept the Vikings off the board in the final minutes.

Elliott Schon scored twice and Cherry Hill built a 4-0 lead and hung on to defeat Clearview 4-3 in a battle of the top teams in Tier II. Cherry Hill capitalized on a two-man advantage early in the first period, Joe Papa scored on the front end of the power play and fifteen seconds later Schon would make it 2-0. Despite being outshot 11-10 Cherry Hill took a 2-0 lead into the second period. John Gallen would increase the lead to 3-0 at the seven minute mark and Schon would get his second of the night four minutes later and the lead was 4-0.

After surrendering a three goal lead Riverfront scored a power play goal with four minutes left in the game as they defeated St Joe’s 6-5 in the late game at Hollydell. St Joe’s led 2-0 after one period on goals by Devin Lawless-Gattone and one on the power play from Cooper Root. Riverfront would respond as they scored a season high five in the second period. Anthony Machion would score two goals in a span of seventy five seconds to tie the game at 2-2 less than two minutes into the period. Dinos Klentzeris and Brayden McFadden scored nineteen seconds apart at the six minute mark to give Riverfront a 4-2 lead. Colin Sabatino made it 5-2 midway through the period and Riverfront had a comfortable three goal lead as we headed into the third period.

Samuel Mohnacs had a hat trick and Brady Swain had a goal and six assists as HLV rolled past PPACS 11-1 in Tier II action at Hollydell on Friday night. Mohnacs wasted little time in getting on the board scoring his first in the opening 39 seconds. That lead became 2-0 three minutes later as Kevin Yang scored and Mohnacs made it 3-0 at the seven minute mark. Andrew Hatzold scored on the power play in the closing seconds and HLV took a 4-0 lead into period number two. PPACS would get their lone goal early in the second as William Hershman scored his team high 4th of the season.

Brendan Forrest scored two goals along with Jack Ellis as Cherokee snapped a 3-3 game midway through the third period and went on to defeat rival Moorestown 5-3 in late game Tier I action played at the Skate Zone. Jacob Stone was strong in goal stopping 25 shots as the Chiefs were out-shot 28-12. Forest gave the Chiefs a 1-0 lead at the five minute mark of the opening period. That lead stood until the six minute mark of period two when Samuel Byrd-Leitner would score a power play goal to tie the score at 1-1. Six minutes later Moorestown would take a 2-1 lead with Zachary McEvoy connecting on his fifth of the season. Just about two minutes later Ellis would get his first of the night on the power play and we were knotted at 2-2 heading into the third period.

Washington Township held its annual opening night ceremony at Hollydell and played an exhibition game against St Joe’s and would skate to a 10-0 win on Wednesday night. As they have been so far during the regular season the offense was paced by Niko and Angelo Durnan who scored two goals each along with Caden Morrell who also scored twice. Also scoring goals were Chris Costello, Aaron McGarvey, Santino Capone and Joe Baselice.

Jack Ellis scored with 39 seconds left in the game, his second goal of the night as Cherokee tied Washington Township 7-7 in exciting Tier I action in Voorhees. Trailing 6-3 with just over five minutes to play, Washington Township would rally and score four goals over the next three minutes and took a  7-6  lead. Cherokee would pull the goalie and with a furious effort managed to get the tying goal.  Harrison Rauh led the Township offense with two goals. After a scoreless first period, Township would take a 2-0 lead on goals by Santino Capone and a power play goal by Matt Egan in the first four minutes of the second period. Cherokee would counter scoring the next three goals in a four minute span as Brendan Forest, Jack Ellis and Colin Devine gave the Chiefs a 3-2 lead with just over four minutes left in the period.

HLV rallied from a 3-1 deficit to score twice in the final four minutes and salvage a 3-3 tie with Cherry Hill East. The teams would trade goals in the first period with Jacob Mutschler giving East a 1-0 lead. HLV would get the tying goal from Brady Swain his team high 12th goal. After a scoreless second period which had HLV firing 19 shots at goalie Brice Sullivan, but he was equal to the task and we began the third period all even. Calvin Aliferov gave East a 2-1 lead scoring in the opening minute. Less than two minutes later Mutschler would get his second of the night and East led 3-1.

Luke Riley scored three goals and Luke Ravitz added two as Eastern defeated Kingsway 7-1 in Tier I action at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. The win was the sixth in a row for Eastern as they strengthened their hold on the top spot now leading Moorestown by six points. Riley opened the scoring just 36 seconds into the game and Kingsway would get a goal from Robert Licciardello at the seven minute mark to tie the game at 1-1. Ravitz gave the Vikings the lead for good with just under five minutes left in the period.

Niko Durnan scored two goals and brother Angelo added one as Washington Township defeated Shawnee 5-1 in a battle of the top 2 teams in JVA. Mike Tussey stopped 22 shots in net and played a strong game for the undefeated Minutemen. Shawnee had a golden opportunity four minutes into the game as they had a two man advantage for a full two minutes. Unfortunately twenty seconds in Shawnee committed a penalty, but still had a power play, but could not get one past Tussey. Township would capitalize on their man advantage as Caden Morrell and Aaron McGarvey broke in 2-on-1 and McGarvey fed a perfect pass to Morrell and he tapped in the pass for a 1-0 lead. Just about six minutes later Christian Ansuini found Niko Durnan down low and he redirected the pass and a 2-0 lead.

Justin Herskowitz stopped all 23 shots in registering his second shutout of the season as Cherry Hill East defeated Eastern 5-0 in JVA action at the Skate Zone in Voorhees on Sunday night. Five different players scored for the Cougars as they improved to 3-4 on the season, the loss dropped Eastern to 5-4. Justin Moroney scored the only goal of the first period with just over two minutes left with Mason Kahn and Tyler Williams getting the assists. Eastern would have two power play opportunities, but Herskowitz kept them off the scoreboard.

Corey Owens scored twice, including the game winner with three minutes left in the game and Mike Lieze stopped thirty-five shots as Kingsway defeated Cherokee 3-2 in late game action at Hollydell. The teams traded power play goals in the opening period with Jeremy Durr scoring for Kingsway and Patrick Dugan who would convert a drop pass from Jack Ellis and go top shelf to tie the game at 1-1. Despite being outshot 15-5 Kingsway was all even thanks to Lieze.

Things looked bleak for Clearview, trailing 2-0 midway through the third period but goals by Gavin Reagan with six minutes left and the tying goal by Vincent Marco with four minutes left gave them a 2-2 tie with Mainland in a Tier II contest played at Hollydell. Mainland scored the lone goal of the first period with Ralph Triboletti connecting for his team high 7th goal. After a scoreless second period Mainland would make it 2-0 as Conor Ogborn fresh out of the penalty box would make the play swinging around the net and found James Murray in the slot and he deposited his shot into the net.

Eastern won its fifth game in a row defeating Moorestown 4-1 at the Skate Zone in Voorhees on Monday night. The Vikings jumped out to a 1-0 lead as Kristian Massanova scored a power play goal seven minutes into the game. Moorestown would tie the score at 1-1 just over one minute later as Elias Sulpizio scored his fourth of the season. Midway through the second period Luke Ravitz gave the Vikings the lead for good with Massanova and Constantine Roustas assisting. Vincent Roustas would make it 3-1 less than one minute later and the Vikings led by two goals after two periods.

Dillon Cooney would get the tying goal scoring on the power play with under two minutes left in the game. Dylan DiGrazio would make it 2-0 with just three seconds left in the period and Shawnee began the third leading by two.

The View took the lead for good as Rockey got his second of the night late in the period and Clearview led 2-1 after one period.

Andrew McGinley led the Township offense scoring three goals. Samuel Byrd-Leitner led Moorestown with two goals. After Michael Guarracino gave Township a 1-0 lead just fifty seconds into the game, Ryan Boyle would get the tying goal at the five minute mark. Goals by Zachary McEvoy and Leitner two minutes apart had Moorestown leading 3-1. McGinley got his first of the night late in the period to cut the lead to 3-2. Kevin Wildish put Moorestown up 4-2 scoring in the final 34 seconds.

We are just starting November and so far it’s been an interesting start. First we have a new team from Philadelphia, PPACS. They have struggled so far as was to be expected. They have a young team and will continue to develop. I mentioned in a previous article that JVA was an option, and while it was discussed, the club reps were adamant in not being placed there, so we apologize if this caused any disturbance. The biggest and most noticeable change however was a rule change that USA Hockey came out with on October 30th and it reads as follows:

Shane McGarvey was just 14 years old when tragically this past July he was killed in a dirt bike accident. This past Sunday night, prior to the Eastern-Cherokee JVA game, the Cherokee Chiefs organization came together to honor this young man, taken way too soon. Shane was a member of the Flyers youth program and also played on the Chiefs middle school program. This year he would have played under Coach Sabol on the JVA team as a freshman at Cherokee. Coach Zuber from Eastern, one of Shane’s coaches from the youth team, also attended the celebration with Shane’s close friend and teammate Gavin Pringle who spoke during the ceremony and remembered his friend and the times they shared on and off the ice.

Down 3-2 late in the period Coach McKay took a time out and decided that with 97 seconds left in the game and an offensive zone face-off it was the right time to pull the goalie for an extra skater. Well timing is everything as Jacob Bianchi would get the equalizer and give the Chiefs a 3-3 tie with rival Moorestown. It’s always a gamble when you pull the goalie and making sure it’s the right time and most coaches will say it’s a feel on how the flow is going and most importantly where is the face-off. Cherokee struck early as Jack Ellis would give them a 1-0 lead scoring his second of the season 49 seconds into the game. Elias Sulpizio would tie the game for Moorestown scoring on a short-handed breakaway five minutes into the second period.

Ryan Karbach and Luke A. Riley scored two goals each as Eastern defeated Egg Harbor Township 5-3 at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. The win was the third in a row for the Vikings after starting the season 0-2-1 and they improved to 3-2-1 overall and stand atop of the Tier I division. Riley and Karbach scored goals in the opening period as the Vikings led 2-0 after one. EHT dominated the shots in the second period 16-3 but could only manage a short-handed goal by Riley Rudolph at the four minute mark to cut the deficit to 2-1. Luke Ravitz got that one back less than one minute later and the Vikings led 3-1.

James Bell stopped 21 shots as Shawnee defeated Cherry Hill East 3-1 in JVA action played at the Voorhees Skate Zone. The Renegades built a 3-0 lead on goals by Patrick Bell in the first period, and goals by Marco Catana and William Shea five minutes apart in the second period. Cherry Hill offense could only manage twelve shots through two periods, but after Mason Kahn scored early in the third period to make it 3-1, moments later Cherry Hill would have a two-man advantage for a full two minutes.

Brady Swain scored four goals as HLV had little trouble in defeating PPACS 10-0 in SJHSHL action played in Voorhees. It took seven minutes for the HLV offense to get on track but goals by Jacob Mohnacs, Andrew Hatzold and Swain in a four minute span gave HLV a 3-0 lead after one period. A five goal second period blew open the game with Swain scoring in the first minute and goals by Brad Davis and Swain two minutes apart pushed the lead to 6-0.

Eastern scored two goals in the opening minute of the first period and they stood up for a 2-1 win over Cherokee in a Sunday night JVA game at Voorhees. Kevin McCafferty and Kevin Burns scored goals in the first 35 seconds as the Vikings led 2-0 early. Despite out-shooting the Vikings 10-6 after one period early in the second period Cherokee was able to capitalize on the power play as Liam Alexander scored at the six minute mark to cut the lead to 2-1. Devin Beale in nets for the Vikings had a strong period as he stopped 11 of 12 shots.

Clearview began the third period with HLV all square at 2-2, but Thomas Rockey would score three consecutive goals to pace Clearview to a 6-2 win over HLV in Tier II action at Hollydell on Friday night. The win improved the View’s record to 6-0. Brady Swain scored both goals for HLV. After Tyler Brosius gave Clearview a 1-0 lead midway through the first period, Swain would tie the game at 1-1 about four minutes later. Early in the second period HLV would take the lead as Swain would connect for his fourth of the season and second of the night and a 2-1 lead. That lead would last just about one minute as Gregory Busk would get the equalizer, his first of the season with Rockey and Connor Reagan getting the assists.

Kingsway led 3-1 with less than one minute left in the game but goals by Kevin Wildish with 27 seconds left and one by Sam Selverian with four seconds left gave Moorestown a 3-3 tie with the Dragons. After a scoreless first period, Moorestown took a 1-0 lead four minutes into the second period as Elias Sulpizio would score for the Quakes. Less than one minute later the Dragons would respond with Corey Owens getting his third goal of the season. Kingsway goalie Mike Lieze would have a strong period as he stopped 13 of 14 shots and we headed into the third period tied at 1-1.

Five players scored two goals each as Cherry Hill defeated PPACS 11-1 in SJHSHL action in Voorhees. Jacob Holland, Tristan Laperriere, Wyatt Ay, Joseph Furgiuele and Eliott Schon each scored two goals and Jacob Mutschler who opened the scoring in the first one minute of the game on the power play added the other goal for Cherry Hill. PPACS dropped to 0-6 on the season, their first in the SJHSHL and are losing by a 10-2 score.

Constantine Roustas had two goals and two assists and Ryan Karbach added a goal and three assists as Eastern defeated Egg Harbor Township 9-2 in Tier I action at the Voorhees Skate Zone. The Vikings took control in the first period jumping out to a 3-0 lead on goals by Luke A Riley, Roustas and Sean Pomerantz. Karbach would make it 4-0 right off the opening face-off of the second period and a late goal by Roustas had the lead to 5-0 heading into the third period.
