Eastern scored two goals in the opening minute of the first period and they stood up for a 2-1 win over Cherokee in a Sunday night JVA game at Voorhees. Kevin McCafferty and Kevin Burns scored goals in the first 35 seconds as the Vikings led 2-0 early. Despite out-shooting the Vikings 10-6 after one period early in the second period Cherokee was able to capitalize on the power play as Liam Alexander scored at the six minute mark to cut the lead to 2-1. Devin Beale in nets for the Vikings had a strong period as he stopped 11 of 12 shots.

The Chiefs would have another power play opportunity after Alexander’s goal but could not get one by Beale. The Vikings protected the one goal lead in the third period limiting the Chiefs to just four shots and they hung on for the win.
