Team Giroux scores 3 in first to hold off Team Oskar
Goals by Brady Swain, Tyler Brosius and Ralph Triboletti powered Team Giroux to a 3-0 lead in the first period and strong goaltending helped Team Giroux defeat Team Oskar 4- 2 in the 2019-2020 Junior-Senior Showcase game played in Voorhees. Team Giroux led by Coach Amon from Cherry Hill and Coach Vulpio from Clearview never trailed as Swain and Brosius scored moments apart for a 2-0 lead. Triboletti made it 3-0 from down low, as Team Giroux was out to make a statement. Erika Nolfi got the start in nets for Team Giroux and was strong in goal. Corey Owens put Team Oskar on the board late in the period to cut the lead to 3-1. Midway through the second period Kristian Massanova would bring Team Oskar to within 3-2 scoring from the slot.
Team Oskar would continue the pressure in the third period launching 13 shots, but Mainland goalie Tyler Hudson was outstanding in nets for Team Giroux. With less than five minutes left in regulation, Owens was awarded a penalty shot and a chance to tie the game, but Hudson stoned him to keep it 3-2. With the clock winding down and the goalie pulled for an extra attacker, Chris Geary scored an empty net goal to close out the scoring.
Notes: Both teams received “Oskar Strong” tee shirts after the game in support of Flyer forward Oskar Lindblom and his fight with a rare cancer.
