Joe Pezzato scored at the five minute mark in the first overtime as Shawnee defeated Strath Haven 2-1 to advance to the semi-finals in the Flyers Cup. Led by Freshman goalie Alex Crespo, who was outstanding in nets stopping 40 shots on net, only, surrendering one goal over fifty minutes of hockey.
Dear Friends,
No child wants to be left out. Fortunately, physically disabled children in South Jersey now have the chance to participate fully in a competitive sport. The Wings of Steel sled hockey team gives a wide range of disabled kids the opportunity to play hockey by skating on the ice on sleds, using their arms and two hockey sticks with picks to propel them across the ice.
Joey Crespo scored seven goals and Matt McDonald added a hat trick as Shawnee handled Plymouth Whitemarsh 12-1 at the Skate Zone in Voorhees on Wednesday night. With the score just 1-0 after one period on a goal from Crespo, Shawnee broke the game open scoring seven goals in the second period. Crespo actually scored the first four goals of the game. Meanwhile brother Alex was stopping all shots by PW and his performance in nets should not be over-shadowed by the scoring out-burst of his brother.
Moorestown was forced to play without two of their top players and also was missing two others due to injury, in suffering a 7-2 loss to Unionville. Austin Curtis scored two goals and assisted on two others to lead the Unionville attack. Also Amy Donovan scored the last goal becoming the first female to score a goal in Flyers Cup History (we believe). With Unionville leading 2-0 after one period and having out-shot the Quakers 14-6, Moorestown began to generate some offense in the second period, launching 17 shots. Unfortunately Stephen Kelly, the Unionville goalie was outstanding and kept Moorestown off the board while Zack Emery and Curtis were able to beat Moorestown goalie Craig Rushmore.
Eric Kukoda had a hat trick and Nick Shrewsbury added two goals as Avon Grove was all over Rancocas Valley 10-2 in Flyers Cup action played in Voorhees. Coming off a season where they were fourth in the league in scoring averaging over six goals per season, Rancocas Valley showed little offense managing only 16 shots for the game. Eric Bitzer and Ryan Gifford scored the goals for Rancocas Valley. The top scoring line of Walsh and Fleming were held off the scoreboard.
Matt Fields scored twice as Cinnaminson defeated Strath Haven 8-4 in the first round of Flyers Cup action at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. With a roster full of under-classmen, and with just one senior, these young Pirates continue their strong season and will now meet the 2nd seed West Chester Henderson on Wednesday at Iceline. After the teams traded goals in the opening period, Sean O’Brien for Strath Haven and Ryan Pottieger for the Pirates, Cinnaminson took control in the second period scoring four goals. Freshman Sean Gault put Cinnaminson ahead 2-1 early in the period and minutes later Nick Pidge found Derrick Yoder in the slot and his shot found the net and the lead was 3-1.
