The Flyers alumni extracted some revenge after last year’s last second defeat to Cherokee as they defeated the Chiefs alumni 9-4 in the exhibition game played on Sunday in front of a packed Skate Zone crowd. Scott McKay, Cherokee Coach and President, could not have envisioned this event growing so quickly in the last two years. Since incorporating the annual Jeff Burd fundraiser and including the Flyers game, this event has become a must see event though it happens over Christmas break. Jordan Grant led the Flyers alumni scoring three goals Aaron Huffnagle led the Chiefs with two goals.

Christian Romeo had a hat trick and David Shore added two goals as Moorestown defeated Black Horse 9-0 at the Skate Zone in Voorhees on Monday night. Moorestown used a five goal third period to blow the game open. Shore and Alex Crowl scored goals in the first period to give the Quakes a 2-0 lead. That lead grew to 4-0 as Moorestown capitalized on a five minute power play with Romeo scoring both goals for a 4-0 lead after two periods.

Maxim Kuznetsov scored five goals and assisted on two others as Eastern defeated Williamstown 8-2 in SJHSHL action at Voorhees. Having just had their eight game winning streak snapped by Kingsway, Eastern took little time to dwell on that loss. Kuznetsov scored the only two goals of the first period, one at the five minute mark and a goal at the twelve minute mark and the Vikings led 2-0. That lead grew to 4-0 in the second period on goals by Joe Arlotta and Kuznetsov.

Nate Smith had a hat trick and the View launched a team record 60 shots on goal as they defeated the Pirates of Cinnaminson 6-2 in JVA action played in Voorhees. The win kept the View unbeaten in JVA action at 7-0-3. Smith opened the scoring in the first three minutes of the game with Shane Wicker getting the assist. Christopher Cloke would tie the game at 1-1 with a goal at the five minute mark. Wicker and Smith would give the View the lead for good in the final minute of the period, this time Wicker scored the goal and Smith assisted.

Black Horse scored two goals in the third period to rally from a 2-1 deficit and beat Washington Township 3-2 in JVA action played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. After a scoreless first period, Zachary Williber scored a short-handed goal, his second of the season, to give Black Horse a 1-0 lead. Township would score two goals four minutes apart to take the lead. First Steven Kanakaris tied the game at 1-1 with a power play goal. Moments later Township grabbed the lead at 2-1 on an unassisted goal by Robert McKinley.

In a battle of the top two teams in Tier I, B division, Kingsway defeated Eastern 6-3, behind three goals from Mike Moss in SJHSHL game action played at Hollydell on Friday evening. The loss snapped an eight game win streak by the Vikings. Special teams were the Vikings downfall tonight as Kingsway scored three short-handed goals to open the game and added two power play goals. Moss scored the first goal of the game with less than two minutes played, short-handed and a 1-0 lead. Joe Arlotta tied the game at 1-1 with just two minutes left in the period. And with the period winding down Mark McCafferty gave the Vikings a 2-1 lead after one.

Nick Frangos scored two goals and assisted on two others as St. Joe’s defeated Riverfront 5-2 in action played at Hollydell. Riverfront is still seeking their first win of the season. In just his third game back with St. Joes Frangos made his presence felt on the ice creating scoring opportunities for his teammates. Kevin Troy opened the scoring on a feed from Frangos to make it 1-0 early in the first period. Sean Conard would tie the game at 1-1 on a nice pass from Reginald Hunter.

Now in existence for over 10 years, the Jeff Burd Memorial Fund along with the guidance from the Cherokee Chiefs Ice Hockey Club continues to strive to expand its programs and offerings to the community. Cherokee alumni will battle the Flyers alumni on Sunday, December 27th at 4:05PM at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Tickets for the game are $20 and $30 if you're planning on attending the after party. We hope that you will be able to take part in a very exciting event that they are offering this year and experience firsthand the pride we take in supporting their causes.

Cherry Hill spotted HLV a two goal lead and came roaring back to score four unanswered goals as they defeated HLV 4-2 in a battle of the two top teams in the B division of Tier II. The win was the seventh in a row for East. Bryan Knaust and Nick DelPrato scored goals in the first nine minutes of the game to give HLV a 2-0 lead. Andrew Bowen would score the first of his two on the night, this one coming on the power play late in the period with Kristopher Hastings getting the assist and the lead was down to 2-1 after one.

Eric Lauk scored twice and Clearview rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat Shawnee 7-3 in Tier I action at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. The win was the second in a row for the View, welcoming back Anthony Dellerose and Eric and Ryan Lauk to the lineup. Shawnee jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first four minutes of the game on goals by Todd Minshall and a power play goal by Matt Schemelia. Lauk and Nate Smith would tie the game scoring goals two minutes apart. Lauk scored his second of the night early in the second period as the View capitalized on the power play and led 3-2 after two periods.
