In keeping with our tradition, SJIceHockey.com is pleased to announce our annual hockey awards given to the players we feel stood out. This year was more difficult than in the past as we had many players in all our categories, but after many discussions here are the selections:
Cherokee averaged less than five goals a game during the regular season, but in there playoff opener against Rancocas Valley they erupted for eleven as they easily defeated RV 11-1 in action played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Anthony Santisi led Cherokee with three goals, Jason Spieker and Anthony Williams added two goals apiece. Wade Sander had the lone goal for RV. Defensively, Cherokee took away Fleming, never allowing him to get going offensively, and totally throttling the RV offense.
Jason Spieker snapped a 4-4 tie with ninety seconds left in the game to give Cherokee a 5-4 win over Eastern. With the victory Alec Zucker completed his regular season at 9-0-4. Zucker, who shares the goaltending duties with freshman Dan Navarra, will be one of the net-minders in this week’s Junior-Senior Showcase at Hollydell on Friday evening. Cherokee jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Anthony Santisi and Anthony Williams.
