Jeremy Ambrose scored two goals and Matt Bidini stopped 24 shots as Cherokee defeated Black Horse 5-3 in Tier I action played at Voorhees. The loss eliminated Black Horse from the playoffs. Ambrose scored the only goal of the first period, this one coming short-handed early in the period. Ambrose made it 2-0 scoring in the opening minute of the second period. Black Horse cut the deficit to 2-1 as Matthew Meldrum scored at the twelve minute mark. Max Zeligson scored just over one minute later for the Chiefs and the lead was 3-1 after two periods. Jared Savidge would connect for his first goal of the season for Black Horse six minutes into the third period and it was 3-2.

Trailing 5-1 midway through the second period, Clearview capitalized on a five minute power play, scoring three goals in a two minute span and Eric Lauk would score in overtime as Clearview defeated Cherokee 6-5 in the SJHSHL Double Elimination Tournament. Cherokee led 2-1 after one period getting both goals from Anthony Salvatore, sandwiched between a goal by Robert Penrod. The Chiefs would score two goals in a ten second span early in the second period, first Jeremy Ambrose would put home a shot by Jake Frankenfield for a 3-1 lead, then right off the face-off Mike Smith would make it 4-1 and the Chiefs seemed to be in control.

Donovan Haslett’s shot from the point found its way into the net with just over three minutes left in the game to snap a 6-6 tie and give Team Giroux a 7-6 win in a very entertaining Junior/Senior Showcase game held at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Kenny Weightman had a hat trick for Team Giroux; Nick Frangos led Team Vorachek also with a hat trick. The game was back and forth in the opening period with Weightman and Frangos exchanging goals in the opening minutes. After Weightman gave his squad a 2-1 lead, Frangos would tie the game midway through the period.

The SJHSHL will hold the Junior/Senior Showcase game this Wednesday, February 3rd at 8:30PM at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Admission is $5. The live draft was conducted last Thursday and 15 forwards, 6 defenseman and 3 goalies were selected for each team. Also 3 alternates were selected in case a selected player cannot make the game. Each team must have at least one player selected. So please come out and support these players. Here are the rosters of the two teams:

Jeremy Ambrose scored two goals, including the game clincher in the final twenty four seconds as Cherokee defeated Clearview 3-1 and clinched the top spot in Tier 1A division and earned a first round bye in the playoffs which begin Monday. Just a freshman, Ambrose led the team in goals with 14, and the future looks bright for the Chiefs as they have a very young squad. Ambrose scored his first goal of the night with three minutes left in the first period. Clearview would tie the game on a two-man advantage as Anthony Dellerose would score his team high 13th of the year. Dellerose leads the team in points as well, and was the fifth selection in the live draft for the Showcase game next Wednesday.

Riley Miller in just his second varsity start, stopped 16 shots as Cherokee defeated Shawnee 4-2 in Tier I action played in Voorhees on Monday night. Cody Sherman scored his third goal of the season in the last five minutes of the opening period to give Cherokee a 1-0 lead. Shawnee would score a power play goal early in the second period, as Daniel Venafro would connect for his first of the season to tie the game at 1-1. Jeremy Ambrose would give Cherokee a 2-1 lead as he would score from the slot, his 12th of the season. Ambrose looks like he could be the next big Chief, in just his first season, leads the team in goals.

There will be a live draft on Thursday January 28th at 7:00 on our web site announcing the selections. There will be 15 forwards, 6 defenseman and 3 goalies selected for each team. Also 3 alternates will be picked in case a selected player cannot make the game. Each team must have at least one player selected. Please come out on Wednesday night and support these players. Cherokee needed to rebound after losing by six goals to rival Township on Friday and they got a strong effort in goal from Matt Bidini as he stopped all 26 shots as Cherokee defeated Moorestown 5-0 in Tier I action at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Moorestown had its chances on the power play but failed on eight attempts, including two occasions where they had a two-man advantage. The Chiefs scored three goals in a five minute span of the opening period to seize control of the game early. Boomer Miller scored at the nine minute mark to make it 1-0, it was Miller’s third goal of the season, in just his fifth game.

Joe Crincolli and Jared Mara each scored two goals as Washington Township defeated Cherokee 8-2 in SJHSHL play at Hollydell on Friday night. With the win Township moved back into first place and has a one point lead over Moorestown. After a scoreless first period Township took advantage of the man advantage as Jarret Strickon would deflect a point shot by Mara into the net for a 1-0 lead five minutes into the period. Just about three minutes later, Crincolli would get his first of the night again on the power play and the lead was 2-0.

Trailing 3-1 late in the second period Cherokee would score the next four goals and defeat Moorestown 5-3 in the first game of 2016. The Chiefs launched 32 shots at Moorestown goalie Dominic Romeo while Moorestown could only muster 16. The Quakes took a 1-0 lead in the first scoring on the power play as Brian Santosuosso would get credit for his fifth of the season. Nick Campbell would score his first varsity goal early in the second period and the game was tied at 1-1. David Shore and Brett Seifried would give the Quakes a 3-1 lead late in the period. Cherokee’s Johnny Butkus would cut the lead to 3-2 with just over one minute left in the period as his blast from the point through a screen would beat Romeo.
