Tristan Tilghman scored with less than five minutes left in the game as Riverfront rallied from a 3-0 first period deficit to defeat Cinnaminson 5-4 in Olympic playoff action played at Hollydell. With the loss the season ended for Cinnaminson. The Pirates looked in control in the first period as they scored early and often. Alex Richardson scored just twenty six seconds into the game for a 1-0 lead. Dylan Richardson would score a short-handed goal at the five minute mark and the lead was 2-0. Less than two minutes later James Lowry made it 3-0 and with standout goalie Steve San Martin the lead looked safe. But Riverfront did not finish 14-1-2 and not know adversity and they would launch 40 shots on goal and would need every one.

Each year, we are pleased with the league allowing us to recognize several players and a coach and their outstanding contributions they have made for their team. With at least two to three players considered for each category, we have finalized our decision. Paul Petrongolo scored three goals and Aiden Rogers stopped 25 shots as St Joe’s defeated Cinnaminson 6-3 in the double elimination tournament for the SJHSHL. Nick Corwonski scored the lone goal of the first period as St Joe’s capitalized on a two man advantage. Early in the second period Trevor Rucci made it 2-0 with Alex Eberly and Patrick Powers getting the assists. Cinnaminson would get on the board taking advantage of the power play with Mike O’brien getting the goal to cut the lead to 2-1. Dylan Richardson would tie the game just eighteen seconds later and we stayed that way until late in the period when Petrongolo would get his first of the night to give St Joe’s a 3-2 lead heading into the final period.

Top seed Riverfront ran into a hot goalie last night as Steve San Martin stopped 34 shots and Dylan Richardson scored a short-handed goal with six minutes left in the game to give Cinnaminson a 3-2 win over Riverfront. Sean Conard scored the only goal of the first period as Riverfront led 1-0. Cinnaminson would score two goals in a three minute span to take a 2-1 lead on goals by James Lowry and Matty McLane. Riverfront would get the equalizer late in the period as Isaac Viereck connected with just over two minutes remaining.

Chris Cozzan from Washington Township had a hat trick and Sam Amon from EEW added two goals as Team Simmonds defeated Team Giroux 9-5 in the Junior-Senior Showcase game played before a packed house at the Skate Zone in Voorhees last night. Despite out-shooting Team Simmonds by 48-35, Team Giroux could not overcome the five goal first period. Before we were settled in our seats it was 3-0 in the first two minutes. Cozzan, playing on a line with teammate Brandon Balsama, who assisted on all three Cozzan goals, got things going on their first shift, Scott Veneziale, from Black Horse deflected a shot by Shawnee’s Alex Churchill and the lead was 2-0.

For the second consecutive year, a live draft was held to select the teams for the upcoming Junior Senior Showcase game to be held Friday, February 6th at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Team Giroux was selected by Cherokee Coach McKay and Riverfront Coach D’Amato and Team Simmonds were selected by Washington Township Coach Glick and EEW Coach Pontonio. Team Giroux won the coin toss and selected Boomer Miller, Team Simmonds went with Cris Cozzan. Here are the rest of the players selected by team:

The nominees have been announced for the 2014-2015 Junior/ Senior Showcase game for the SJHSHL. Each team will have at least one player representing their club. The head coach from Washington Township, EEW and St Joe’s will coach one squad. The other squad will have the head coach from Cherokee, Mainland and Riverfront. Once again we will do a live draft on Thursday, January 29th at approximately 7:00PM. Each team will consist of 12 forwards, 6 defenseman and 3 goalies. In case some players cannot make the game, 3 alternates will be selected for each squad. The game will be played on Friday, February 6th at Skate Zone in Voorhees at 8:05PM. Congratulations to all the nominees!!

Andrew Fehr scored two goals and Steve San Martin shut down the high power offense of St Joe’s as Cinnaminson upset the division leaders 3-2 in Olympic action played at Hollydell. St Joe’s entered the contest averaging over 7 goals per game, but were continually stoned by San Martin down low. Fehr scored both goals of the first period, one on the power play at the eight minute mark and then short-handed five minutes later. Paul Petrongolo would score his 18th goal of the season to bring St Joe’s to within 2-1 in the first ten seconds of the second period. Cinnaminson would take advantage of St Joe’s having two men in the box and Jake Gimbel would connect on his sixth goal of the year to give the Pirates a 3-1 lead heading into the final period.

As we begin 2015 and head towards the playoffs let’s take a look at the division leaders and where they should finish: American Division: Washington Township has a 3 point lead with two games in hand and has winnable games against Shawnee, EEW and HLV. They would seem to be in the driver’s seat for the top seed in the division. Cherokee is still the 4 time champ and needs to get there offense going if they want a 5th title. Clearview has proved they can play with anybody and could surprise here depending on the goaltending. Moorestown has struggled within the division going 1-6-1.

Jonathan Eisner scored the tying goal late in the second period as EEW played Cinnaminson to a 2-2 draw in JVA action at the Skate Zone in Voorhees on Sunday night. Jeff Hernandez stopped 31 shots for the EEW and played a key role in the third period. Owen McNally gave the EEW a 1-0 lead five minutes into the game with Sean Cline getting the assist. Cinnaminson would get a power play goal from Geno Sambucci, his third of the season five minutes later to tie the score at 1-1. Liam McGurrin gave Cinnaminson a 2-1 lead six minutes into the second period but Eisner would get the equalizer in the final two minutes to tie the game at 2-2 after two periods.
