Clearview Articles 2015-2016
As we come to an end of the 2015-2016 season had a few final thoughts and observations about this season. Does anyone remember that just a few years ago Kingsway went winless and now the last 2 years have turned that program around? They took their lumps and beatings by joining the Tier I division, but it has paid off and they have also grown their fan base. With their win on Friday night against Township, Cherokee has become one of the most successful high school programs in our region. Love them or hate them, you cannot argue with their accomplishments, winning 6 out of the last 7 titles is a feat that might not be duplicated. Coach McKay has built a strong program and his team looks even stronger for next season.

Cherokee scored four goals in a ten minute span of the first period and went on to defeat Clearview 7-2 in an elimination game in the SJHSHL tournament before a packed house at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. The win put the Chiefs into the finals against Washington Township; Cherokee must beat Township twice as the Minutemen have not lost a game as of yet on the Tournament. Tonight the Chiefs got contributions from all their lines as they rotated everyone and got contributions from each line, but in particular their top line stepped up tonight with Kyle Horner leading the way with two goals and three assists, Anthony Salvatore had a goal and three assists and Boomer Miller had a goal and one assist.
The second annual NJ/DE Flyers cup will be held the week of March 14th. Cherokee and Washington Township will play at the Skate Zone in Voorhees with dates and times to be announced. Moorestown and Kingsway will travel to the Pond in Delaware Monday, March 14th, times to be announced. Please come out and support your team and congratulations to all the teams on being selected. Here are the teams nominated along with their seeding:
AJ Colella stopped 32 shots and Donovan Haslett scored twice as Washington Township defeated Clearview 4-2 and will now move onto the championship round with a chance to defend their title. Clearview jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Anthony Dellerose and Jake Sholders in the first six minutes of the game, Colella would shut the door the rest of the way as he saved his best performance for tonight. Eric Sailor picked the perfect time to score his first goal of the season, it came with just three minutes left in the period and got Township on the board and gave them momentum heading into the second period.
Trailing 5-1 midway through the second period, Clearview capitalized on a five minute power play, scoring three goals in a two minute span and Eric Lauk would score in overtime as Clearview defeated Cherokee 6-5 in the SJHSHL Double Elimination Tournament. Cherokee led 2-1 after one period getting both goals from Anthony Salvatore, sandwiched between a goal by Robert Penrod. The Chiefs would score two goals in a ten second span early in the second period, first Jeremy Ambrose would put home a shot by Jake Frankenfield for a 3-1 lead, then right off the face-off Mike Smith would make it 4-1 and the Chiefs seemed to be in control.
Donovan Haslett’s shot from the point found its way into the net with just over three minutes left in the game to snap a 6-6 tie and give Team Giroux a 7-6 win in a very entertaining Junior/Senior Showcase game held at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Kenny Weightman had a hat trick for Team Giroux; Nick Frangos led Team Vorachek also with a hat trick. The game was back and forth in the opening period with Weightman and Frangos exchanging goals in the opening minutes. After Weightman gave his squad a 2-1 lead, Frangos would tie the game midway through the period.
Robert Pendrod had three goals and two assists and Anthony Dellerose had two goals and three assists as Clearview pulled away from Black Horse 7-4 in the opening round of the SJHSHL double elimination tournament at Voorhees on Monday evening Zachary Faust led Black Horse with a hat trick. Chris Kilcourse scored the only goal of the first period to give Black Horse a 1-0 lead. Faust made it 2-0 in the opening minute of the second period, but one minute later Eric Lauk got Clearview on the board to make it 2-1. Faust would get his second of the night thirty seconds later and Black Horse had a 3-1 advantage. Penrod would get his first of the night at the ten minute mark to get Clearview to within 3-2.
The SJHSHL will hold the Junior/Senior Showcase game this Wednesday, February 3rd at 8:30PM at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Admission is $5. The live draft was conducted last Thursday and 15 forwards, 6 defenseman and 3 goalies were selected for each team. Also 3 alternates were selected in case a selected player cannot make the game. Each team must have at least one player selected. So please come out and support these players. Here are the rosters of the two teams:
Jeremy Ambrose scored two goals, including the game clincher in the final twenty four seconds as Cherokee defeated Clearview 3-1 and clinched the top spot in Tier 1A division and earned a first round bye in the playoffs which begin Monday. Just a freshman, Ambrose led the team in goals with 14, and the future looks bright for the Chiefs as they have a very young squad. Ambrose scored his first goal of the night with three minutes left in the first period. Clearview would tie the game on a two-man advantage as Anthony Dellerose would score his team high 13th of the year. Dellerose leads the team in points as well, and was the fifth selection in the live draft for the Showcase game next Wednesday.
Eric Lauk scored with forty-eight seconds left in the game as Clearview tied Moorestown 3-3 in a rare Tuesday night game at Hollydell. Anthony Dellerose gave Clearview a 1-0 lead scoring a short-handed goal late in the first period. Alex Crowl would tie the game moments later for Moorestown scoring his seventh goal of the season. Midway through the second period Brett Seifried would score his second goal of the season to give Moorestown a 2-1 lead and three minutes later that lead was 3-1 as Robert Wildish would score his third of the year, and his second in as many games.
