EEW - Eastern, Cherry Hill East & Cherry Hill West 2012-2013
I watched a coach have his team gather around a television that had been rolled into the gym. I was thinking, they're about to watch some game film, boy was I wrong! This coach pulls out the "Insanity" DVD. The issue, as I see is it is this, the head coach will let their team know how important any aspect of their program is by how much attention they give to it. Case in point, when a coach is going over an offense or defense, do you honestly believe they would pop in a DVD to show the team? I don't believe so, that coach would be teaching, interacting with their team. They would be encouraging cajoling doing things that coaches do.

With the season officially over, just wanted to get some random thoughts off my mind and maybe tie up some loose ends…
Matt Cloud had three goals and Brian Miller added two as Team Briere defeated team Giroux 11-2 last night at Hollydell. The game was close after two periods but Team Briere blew the game open with six goals in the third period. Brandon Mead scored twice for Team Giroux. This year the league supplied jerseys and socks to each player. And Joe Walters supplied both teams with hoodies as well.
We are leaving it up to you. Go to our Poll Questions page and help us select this year's Leadership Award which will be presented before the Junior-Senior Showcase. Two seniors from each Tier I team was selected by their coaches to be represented in letting the fans vote for their Leadership recipient. The voting will end on Tuesday, February 26th at midnight. Your final vote will determine who wins the Leadership Award.
Once again SJIceHockey.com is pleased to announce our annual award recipients. This year there seemed to be more balance throughout the league and with the playoffs upon us we could be in for a few surprises. Listed below are the 2012-2013 winners:
Nick Kilcourse, Collin Miller and John Kennedy scored third period goals as Black Horse came back to defeat EEW 4-2 in Tier II playoff action at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. The loss eliminated the EEW from playoff contention. The teams traded goals in the first period with Peter Laviolette scoring in the opening thirty seconds to give the EEW a 1-0 lead. Black Horse countered one minute later as Bryan Popiolek tied the game at 1-1.
Five different players scored for H/L/V as they defeated the EEW 5-1 in playoff action at Voorhees on Monday night. Doug Henkel stopped 15 shots in getting the win. H/L/V got things started early as Alex Mastrokyriakos scored just two minutes into the game. Matt Cloud made it 2-0 just about two minutes later scoring a power play goal. Sam Belanger made it 3-0 with assists going to Brian Clegg and Pat Rizzo.
Moorestown, H/L/V and Riverfront all enter the double elimination Tournament as the top seeds, however it’s not where you start but how you finish. Let’s take a look at each Tier:
Andrew Dolan scored two goals, one on the power play and one short-handed as the EEW defeated Cinnaminson 4-1 in an opening round game in the Tier II playoff double elimination tournament. After Cinnaminson scored the lone goal of the first period, Peter Selnek scoring unassisted at the 3 minute mark, the EEW tied the score in the opening minute of the second period with Zach Bieriq getting a power play goal with Dolan and Sam Amon getting the assists.
Austin Kohler and Ryan Lauk each scored twice as Clearview defeated the EEW 5-1 in Tier II action at the Skate Zone in Voorhees on Monday night. Playing without their captain and leader Mike Vulpio, who began serving his suspension; Clearview needed eight minutes to finally get one past EEW goalie Brian Mood as Kohler snapped an eight game scoreless streak to give Clearview a 1-0 lead. That lead lasted seven seconds as Peter Laviolette tied the game at 1-1 notching his ninth goal of the year.
