Black Horse has dropped out of the league citing not enough players to fill a team.

Max Kuznetsov had four goals and one assist and Connor Riley had three goals and two assists as Eastern had little trouble in defeating Appoquinmink 11-3 in an opening round game in the Flyers Cup. Joey Arlotta added four assists as the Vikings jumped put to a 4-0 lead after one period. Steven Brodzik scored just four minutes into the game as the Vikings took control early and never looked back. Nineteen seconds after Brodzik scored Riley would get his firs of the night and the lead was 2-0. Kuznetsov would score twice in a three minute span late in the period and Eastern led 4-0 after one.
Maximum Kuznetsov had a goal and three assists to lead the Eastern Vikings over Cherokee 5-4 in front of a packed house last night in Voorhees. The Vikings led from the start and held off a hard charging Chief team in the final seconds to win their first Championship since back in the early 2000’s. Goals by Jacob Findley and Connor Riley on the power play put the Vikings ahead 2-0 late in the first period. Trevor Ligekis would get a goal for Cherokee in the final fifteen seconds of the period and despite being outplayed Cherokee was only down 2-1.
The teams have been announced for the NJ/Delaware Flyers cup and soon it will begin its 4th Annual tournament the second week of March. This year there has been an increase in the number of teams participating. Here is the schedule for the Pond in Delaware with Salesianum playing Kingsway and Delaware Military Academy playing Township on Monday March 6th. Cherokee will host Moorestown and Eastern will host Appoquinmink at Voorhees also on March 6th. Semi-finals on Wednesday, March 8th with the Championship on Friday March 10th. Here's the full list and seeding for this year's Flyers Cup.
Jeremy Ambrose had two goals and two assists and Mike Deford added two goals as Cherokee defeated Eastern 6-3 to force a deciding game on Monday night in the Tier I double elimination tournament. Maxim Kuznetsov scored all three Eastern goals. Deford scored the only goal of the first period as he deflected a point shot by Jake Frankenfield to put the Chiefs up 1-0. Ambrose made the play along the boards as he kept the puck in and feed Frankenfield with Deford crossing in front and deflecting the shot into the net. Frankenfield had a strong game on defense as he shadowed Kuznetsov on the ice all night.
Each year, we are pleased with the league allowing us to recognize several players and a coach and their outstanding contributions they have made for their team. With at least two to three players considered for each category, we have finalized our decision. In the continuing tradition here at SJIceHockey we honor players we feel stood out during the regular season and here are the players we selected and are pleased to announce the 2016-2017 award winners:
Maxim Kuznetsov had four goals and Connor Riley had four assists as Eastern defeated Moorestown 6-3 and advanced to the Championship round in the SJHSHL double elimination Tournament. The Vikings built a 4-0 lead through two periods before Moorestown would mount a third period comeback. Joe Arlotta gave the Vikings a 1-0 lead just one minute into the game. We would stay that way until less than five minutes left in the period when James McGrath would score just his second goal of the season and the lead was 2-0. Kuznetsov as it turned out would score the next four for the Vikings. His first coming just thirty seconds after McGrath’s goal and the lead was 3-0 after one.
Maxim Kuznetsov had a hat trick and Connor Riley added two goals as Eastern opened the playoffs with an 8-1 win over Washington Township in action played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Riley scored both goals in the first period as the Vikings led 2-0. Jarrett Wharton would get a power play goal for Township early in the second period to cut the lead to 2-1. Kuznetsov would score an unassisted goal thirty seconds later and the lead was 3-1. Jacob Findley scored at the nine minute mark to give Eastern a 4-1 lead after two periods.
Mike Moss broke a 2-2 game with ten minutes left in the game as Team Simmonds edged Team Giroux 3-2 in last night’s Junior/Senior Showcase game at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Having participated in the last few drafts Coach McKay has never won in this format, and while he wouldn’t admit that it bothered him, I got to believe that the success he has enjoyed over the last 8 years, not winning this game was probably bothering him to a degree. Trailing 2-0 on goals by Kevin Troy of St Joe’s and Zachary Faust of Black Horse, Team Simmonds would get a late goal in the period as Cody Charyk from Shawnee would score with Moss and Vinny Salerno getting the assists.
This past Thursday night the SJHSHL held its Junior/Senior Showcase draft with Team Giroux selected by Coach Popiolek from Black Horse and Coach Busler from Cherry Hill East and making the selections for Team Simmonds were Coach McKay from Cherokee and Coach Vulpio from Clearview. We tossed a coin to see who would get first pick and Team Simmonds won the toss and selected Nick Ramos, Team Giroux would select Zachary Faust with their first pick. The forwards were chosen first, total of 12, followed by 6 defenseman each team, then 3 alternates each team and finally the goalies. Here are the rosters:
