As we come to an end of the 2015-2016 season had a few final thoughts and observations about this season. Does anyone remember that just a few years ago Kingsway went winless and now the last 2 years have turned that program around? They took their lumps and beatings by joining the Tier I division, but it has paid off and they have also grown their fan base. With their win on Friday night against Township, Cherokee has become one of the most successful high school programs in our region. Love them or hate them, you cannot argue with their accomplishments, winning 6 out of the last 7 titles is a feat that might not be duplicated. Coach McKay has built a strong program and his team looks even stronger for next season.

The second annual NJ/DE Flyers cup will be held the week of March 14th. Cherokee and Washington Township will play at the Skate Zone in Voorhees with dates and times to be announced. Moorestown and Kingsway will travel to the Pond in Delaware Monday, March 14th, times to be announced. Please come out and support your team and congratulations to all the teams on being selected. Here are the teams nominated along with their seeding:
Egg Harbor Township scored four goals in the third period, three by Travis Tuthill as they rallied from a 3-2 deficit to defeat Cherry Hill 6-3 in playoff action in Voorhees. Jared Fisch led the Cherry Hill offense with two goals. Matt Castlelane gave EHT a 1-0 lead just two minutes into the game, however a power play goal by Brian Stamm and an even strength goal gave Cherry Hill a 2-1 lead after one period. Fisch made it 3-1 in the opening minute of the second period scoring on the power play.
Donovan Haslett’s shot from the point found its way into the net with just over three minutes left in the game to snap a 6-6 tie and give Team Giroux a 7-6 win in a very entertaining Junior/Senior Showcase game held at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Kenny Weightman had a hat trick for Team Giroux; Nick Frangos led Team Vorachek also with a hat trick. The game was back and forth in the opening period with Weightman and Frangos exchanging goals in the opening minutes. After Weightman gave his squad a 2-1 lead, Frangos would tie the game midway through the period.
The SJHSHL will hold the Junior/Senior Showcase game this Wednesday, February 3rd at 8:30PM at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Admission is $5. The live draft was conducted last Thursday and 15 forwards, 6 defenseman and 3 goalies were selected for each team. Also 3 alternates were selected in case a selected player cannot make the game. Each team must have at least one player selected. So please come out and support these players. Here are the rosters of the two teams:
The SJHSHL will hold the Junior/Senior Showcase game on Wednesday February 3rd at 8:30 at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. There will be a live draft on Thursday January 28th at 7:00 on our web site announcing the selections. There will be 15 forwards, 6 defenseman and 3 goalies selected for each team. Also 3 alternates will be picked in case a selected player cannot make the game. Each team must have at least one player selected. Please come out on Wednesday night and support these players. Maxim Kuznetsov had four goals as Eastern defeated Egg Harbor Township 9-5 in game action played in Voorhees. Darren Wan led Egg Harbor with two goals. Wan gave EHT a 1-0 lead just thirty nine seconds into the game. The Vikings would respond scoring three goals in a five minute span to take a 3-1 lead. First Joe Arlotta would score his tenth of the season to tie the score at 1-1. Kuznetsov gave Eastern a 2-1 lead and then set-up Conor Riley eleven seconds later and the lead was 3-1 after one.
Travis Tuthill scored three goals and Adam Notaro stopped all 19 shots as Egg Harbor Township defeated Williamstown 6-0 at the Skate Zone on Monday night. Leading just 1-0 after the first period on a Tuthill goal with less than four minutes remaining in the period, EHT would score four times in the second period to break the game open.
Christian Raymond and Phillip Kovalevsky each scored two goals, with Raymond’s coming in the third period as Egg Harbor Township came from behind to defeat Kingsway 6-4 in SJHSHL action at the Skate Zone. Dom Salerno scored twice to lead the Kingsway attack. Kingsway jumped out to a 3-1 lead after the first period on goals by Matt Smith, Salerno and Matt Kudless on the power play. Kovalevsky scored the lone EHT goal.
Shawnee rallied from a 2-0 deficit to score three unanswered goals in a five minute span of the second period and hung on for a 3-2 win over Black Horse in game action in Voorhees on Monday evening. Scott Veneziale scored the lone goal of the first period, just fifteen seconds into the game. His second goal of the night came midway through the second period and Black Horse led 2-0. Evan Glenn would score his first goal of the season, this coming on the power play to bring Shawnee to within 2-1.
