Johnny Pearson scored three goals and Luke Martini stopped 29 shots as Cherry Hill East defeated HLV 7-1 in the final game of the Tier II championship. The win gave East their second straight title. East had balanced scoring throughout and was the key to winning, along with solid goaltending from Martini. Luke Steele got things started early for East scoring just three minutes into the game. David Cutler put home a rebound of a shot by Steele to make it 2-0.

Cherry Hill East dominated the second period outshooting HLV 14-2 and scoring three goals, two goals from Johnny Pearson to break a 1-1 game and propel them past HLV 5-2 and force a deciding game in the Tier II championship. After Samuel Swain scored the only goal of the first period to give HLV its only lead at 1-0, Tommy Papa fed Nick Carr for the equalizer at the nine minute mark of the second period. Pearson would then score twice in a two minute span, both on breakaways to give East a 3-1 lead. His second goal came short-handed and seemed to take the air out of HLV.

In the continuing tradition here at SJIceHockey, we are pleased to announce the 2017-2018 award winners. We had many players that had a standout year which made it difficult to narrow down and in one category we actually picked two players to share the honors. Congratulations to all.  The presentations will be prior to game 1 of the Championship round at Voorhees.

HLV built a 5-2 lead and held off a fast charging Clearview squad in winning 5-4 in Tier II playoff action in Pennsauken. The teams traded goals in the first period with Matt Kilkenny giving HLV a 1-0 lead early and Eli Howey tying the game for Clearview late in the period. HLV took control in the second period getting goals from Ryan LaSalvia and Matthew Savvas on the power play and took a 3-1 lead into the third period.

Shawnee is making its first appearance in recent memory and Moorestown finds itself the top seed after a 15-1-2 season. The games are scheduled to be played starting on March 12th as Cherokee will host DMA at 8:45 at Voorhees Skate Zone. Moorestown will begin play on Tuesday March 13th at Voorhees at 7:00. Please check back for the complete schedule, to be posted in the Forum. The 5th annual NJ/DE Flyers cup teams have been selected and here are the rankings...

Kyle Peters scored one minute into the overtime period as Team Simmonds rallied from a three goal deficit to defeat Team Giroux 9-8 in the Junior-Senior Showcase game held at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Max Kuznetsov led Team Giroux with six goals. Dominic Garrozzo had three goals and four assists and Kyle Peters added a hat trick for Team Simmonds. Luke Dobbs opened the scoring giving Team Giroux the early 1-0 lead. Dennis Campbell tied the game at 1-1 at the five minute mark.

The 2017-2018 SJHSHL draft for the Junior-Senior Showcase game was conducted on Tuesday night as the coaches for Team Simmonds and Team Giroux gathered to make their selections. Team Giroux, who will be coached by Daryl Sporer from Moorestown and assisted by Scott Busler from Cherry Hill East won the toss and selected Max Kuznetsov from Eastern with their first pick. Team Simmonds who will be coached by Scott McKay from Cherokee and assisted by John Francis from Kingsway selected Dominic Garrozzo from Washington Township. Matt Kilkenny scored three goals and added two assists and Kyle Peters added two goals and two assists as HLV used a six goal first period and went on to defeat Riverfront 10-3 in Tier II action played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. The teams would combine for eight goals in a wild first period, with six coming in the first six minutes. Peters and Kevin Yang scored goals in the first two minutes as HLV led 2-0. Daniel Taylor would get Riverfront on the board at the four minute mark, but goals by Kilkenny and Zachary Stoor ninety seconds apart had the lead to 4-1.

The nominees for the 2017-2018 Junior/Senior Showcase game have been released. The game will be played on Wednesday, February 7th at the Voorhees Skate Zone at 7:05. Tickets are $5. Head coach from Moorestown will team with head coach from Cherry Hill East to oppose head coach from Cherokee who will team with head coach from Kingsway. We will conduct a live draft next week-date and time to be announced so stay tuned. Here are your 2017-2018 nominees...

Matthew Kilkenny scored with less than four minutes remaining in the game to give HLV a 1-1 tie against Clearview in SJHSHL action played in Voorhees. Clearview’s lone goal came off the stick of Christopher Geary midway through the second period, his fourth of the season and Clearview goalie Matt Dalonzo made that lead stand up until late in the game. Dalonzo stopped 32 shots in a strong performance while the View was only able to launch 14 shots. HLV improved to 13-2-2 on the season and moved one point ahead of Cherry Hill East in the standings.
