Jona Carmany and Darren Hewitt each had a hat trick as Egg Harbor Township defeated Cherokee 8-3 in the JVB Championship. Cherokee led 2-0 in the first four minutes of the game on goals by Patrick Dugan and Ryan Deangelis. Jacob Feliciano got things going for EHT scoring at the eleven minute mark, less than two minutes later we were tied at 2-2 on the first of three by Carmany. Hewitt scored on the power play with one second left in the period and EHT took a 3-2 lead after one.

Luke Steel had a hat trick and Tommy Papa added two goals as Cherry Hill East defeated Cherokee 7-2 for the JVA Championship last night in Voorhees. East led from the start and despite being out-shot 48-27, took control of the game with four goals in the first period. Papa and Steele would score thirty five seconds apart in the game’s first six minutes to lead 2-0. Steel would convert on the power play midway through the period and East led 3-0. Cherokee would have some power play opportunities, with consecutive penalties called against East at the nine and ten minute mark but failed to capitalize.

Cherokee JVA withstood a four goal third period by Washington Township and hung on for the 5-4 win in JVA playoff action at the Flyers Skate Zone. After a scoreless first period the Chiefs put up three goals in the second period with Josh Aubrey opening the scoring on the power play at the nine minute mark. Seconds later Jake Kelley made it 2-0 with Brendan Mohnacs getting the assist. Jeff Brna scored a late goal for the Chiefs and they took a 3-0 lead into the third period.

Tommy Papa and Ethan Chase each had a hat trick as Cherry Hill East JVA defeated Moorestown JVA 8-2 in playoff action played in Voorhees. Cherry Hill took control with a four goal first period and never looked back. Goals by Chase, Papa and two from Ben Snyder gave East a 4-0 lead. Chase and Papa would connect early in the second period and the lead was 6-0.

Each year, we are pleased with the league allowing us to recognize several players and a coach and their outstanding contributions they have made for their team. With at least two to three players considered for each category, we have finalized our decision. In the continuing tradition here at SJIceHockey we honor players we feel stood out during the regular season and here are the players we selected and are pleased to announce the 2016-2017 award winners:

Alec Miller stopped all 19 shots as Washington Township defeated Black Horse 4-0 in JVA Playoff action. Nick Shute scored the only goal Township would need just forty one seconds into the game. Anthony Lonasco scored a power play goal late in the period and after one it was 2-0. Ryan Andrews would score an early power play goal for the Minutemen as they capitalized on a penalty by Black Horse at the end of the first. Black Horse had two power play opportunities late in the period but Miller kept them off the board.

Matt Marzo scored four goals as Moorestown defeated Williamstown 7-2 in JVA action played at Skate Zone in Voorhees. After Dennis Campbell gave Williamstown a 1-0 lead at the eight minute mark, just over one minute later Sean Humes would tie the game at 1-1. Goals by Marzo and Ryler Radziemski less than two minutes apart late in the period gave the Quakes a 3-1 lead after one.

Cherokee Chiefs JVA team scored three goals in the third period, two coming in the final ninety seconds as they defeated Moorestown 3-1 in JVA action in Pennsauken on Sunday night. Moorestown scored the only goal of the first period as Kevin Hillman notched his fifth of the season to put the Quakes up 1-0. That lead stood until early in the third period when Jeffrey Brna would get the tying goal in the first three minutes of the period.

Harrison Rauh scored four goals and Alec Miller stopped 44 shots as Washington Township skated by Clearview 9-2 in JVA action played at the Skate Zone in Pennsauken this past Sunday. Since joining Township, Miller is 4-3 in nets, prior to him starting; Township had gone winless in six games. Rauh’s scoring outburst was a pleasant surprise as these were his first varsity goals.

Williamstown JVA launched 43 shots and scored five times as they defeated Clearview JVA 5-4 at Pennsauken Skate Zone. Dennis Campbell led the offense with two goals; Nathan Smith had a hat trick for Clearview. The game was tied at 2-2 after one period with Smith and Nick Cicotasto scoring for Clearview and Tyler Spear and Ryan Shannon getting the Braves goals.
