Joseph Bene scored two third period goals, his 18th and 19th on the season to lead Kingsway to a 3-1 win over Williamstown in the first game of 2017 for both clubs. Williamstown took a 1-0 lead as Jesse Cave ripped one home from the slot to beat goalie Jacob Brown. That was all Brown would give up as he improved to 5-2 on the season and saw his GAA drop to 3.86. Late in the second period Mike Moss would tie the game at 1-1 scoring his 21st on a breakaway.

Matthew Meldrum and Zachary Faust each scored two goals as Black Horse defeated Kingsway 6-3 at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Black Horse built a 4-0 lead before Kingsway mounted a comeback. Meldrum and Mike Barbella scored first period goals, less than two minutes apart to give Black Horse a 2-0 lead after one. Harry Rivell would get his first of the season early in the second period to make it 3-0. Faust would connect on the power play midway through the period and the lead was 4-0.
The list of nominees from each SJHSHL team has been announced for the Junior/Senior Showcase game to be played on January 31st at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Each team will have 12 forwards, 6 defenseman and 3 goalies. In addition, 3 alternates will be chosen in the event a player selected cannot make the game. The league will conduct a live draft streamed on SJIceHockey.com at a date to be announced. Here are the nominees:
Kingsway Ice Hockey has rebuilt their program over the last few years, coming so close to the championship, losing in overtime last year in the title game and they have continued their winning tradition by holding its 5th annual Food Drive on Saturday, November 19th. Thanks to the hard work and tireless efforts of everyone on the Kingsway Hockey organization, they collected over 600 pounds of food and a few hundred dollars as well. That amount of food will produce over 2000 meals over the holidays, and was donated to the South Jersey Food Bank.
Michael O’Brien scored with five seconds left in the game as Cinnaminson rallied from a two goal deficit and earned a 4-4 tie with Kingsway Monday night in Voorhees. After a scoreless first period, Kingsway would connect for three in the second period, with Joe Bene scoring in the opening minutes to make it 1-0. Jordan Evans would tie the game at 1-1 for Cinnaminson midway through the period scoring a power play goal. Goals by Vince Salerno and Mike Moss late in the period would give Kingsway a 3-1 lead heading into the third period.
Mike Moss had two goals and four assists and Joseph Bene scored three times as Kingsway rallied from a 3-1 deficit to defeat Middle Township 7-4 at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Antonio Bene scored a power play goal in the opening three minutes to give Kingsway a 1-0 lead. Middle Township with score the next three goals to take a 3-1 lead. First Sydney Couval would get credit for the first goal as a mishandled puck by a Kingsway player found its way into the net. Then on the power play Paul Stryker converted and TJ Albano would add a second power play goal at the ten minute mark and Middle Township took a 3-1 lead into the second period.
Matthew Meldrum scored twice and Mike Barbella added a goal and two assists as Black Horse defeated Kingsway 4-2 in the season opener for both clubs. Kingsway failed to convert on seven power play opportunities and never generated control on offense when they had the man advantage. Meldrum scored the only goal of the first period at the five minute mark to put Black Horse up 1-0. Barbella would make it 2-0 late in the second period but Kingsway would score less than a minute later as Vince Salerno out-worked the defense and came out from the corner with the puck and wristed home a shot to cut the deficit to 2-1 after two periods.
