Lower Cape May Articles 2012-13
I watched a coach have his team gather around a television that had been rolled into the gym. I was thinking, they're about to watch some game film, boy was I wrong! This coach pulls out the "Insanity" DVD. The issue, as I see is it is this, the head coach will let their team know how important any aspect of their program is by how much attention they give to it. Case in point, when a coach is going over an offense or defense, do you honestly believe they would pop in a DVD to show the team? I don't believe so, that coach would be teaching, interacting with their team. They would be encouraging cajoling doing things that coaches do.

With the season officially over, just wanted to get some random thoughts off my mind and maybe tie up some loose ends…
Matt Cloud had three goals and Brian Miller added two as Team Briere defeated team Giroux 11-2 last night at Hollydell. The game was close after two periods but Team Briere blew the game open with six goals in the third period. Brandon Mead scored twice for Team Giroux. This year the league supplied jerseys and socks to each player. And Joe Walters supplied both teams with hoodies as well.
We are leaving it up to you. Go to our Poll Questions page and help us select this year's Leadership Award which will be presented before the Junior-Senior Showcase. Two seniors from each Tier I team was selected by their coaches to be represented in letting the fans vote for their Leadership recipient. The voting will end on Tuesday, February 26th at midnight. Your final vote will determine who wins the Leadership Award.
Once again SJIceHockey.com is pleased to announce our annual award recipients. This year there seemed to be more balance throughout the league and with the playoffs upon us we could be in for a few surprises. Listed below are the 2012-2013 winners:
St Joe’s staved off elimination from the double elimination tournament beating Lower Cape May 9-0 at Hollydell on Friday night. Troy Altbaum stopped all 24 shots in pitching the shutout. Paulie Petrongolo added two goals and two assists. St Joe’s wasted little time in taking control as Nick Frangos scored an unassisted goal as he intercepted a cross ice pass to make it 1-0. Lower Cape May’s best chance of the period came on a breakaway by Karlson Hughes, but Altbaum stoned him. Lovell made it 2-0 on a feed from Nick Corwonski.
Moorestown, H/L/V and Riverfront all enter the double elimination Tournament as the top seeds, however it’s not where you start but how you finish. Let’s take a look at each Tier:
The teams have been selected for the 2012-2013 Junior/ Senior Showcase game for the SJHSHL. This year the two teams are being called Team Giroux and Team Briere. There are 12 forwards, 6 defenseman and 3 goalies selected. In case some players can not make the game there also were 3 alternates chosen. All the nominees were submitted by the teams and then chosen by a committee. The page listing the players is still being worked on, but if you are a registered member, you will have full access to view the selections. From the Home page, select the "All Star Game" link on the left.
The list of the 2013 Junior/Senior Showcase nominees has been released and we have them. The game will be played either late February or early March with date, time and location details still being worked out. Here are the nominees for Team A:
Brian Clegg and Sam Belanger each scored two goals as Holy/Lenape/Valley routed Lower Cape May 10- 0 in Tier II action played in Voorhees on Monday evening. A seven goal first period keyed the H/L/V team with Belanger opening the score fest less than five minutes into the contest. Goals by Nick Falcone, Colin Riera and Clegg over the next four minutes had the lead at 4-0. H/L/V would close the period with three goals in a span of two minutes, with Nate Fowler, RC Randal and Matt Cloud getting the goals.
