Lower Cape May Articles 2017-2018
A five goal second period propelled Shawnee to an 11-0 win over Lower Cape May in Tier I B action played at Voorhees. Anthony Poppalardo led the offense with four goals and Thomas Caputo added two goals as the offense launched 50 shots. Todd Minshall opened the scoring early in the first period, then two goals by Poppalardo sandwiched between one by Caputo had Shawnee leading 4-0 after one period.

In the continuing tradition here at SJIceHockey, we are pleased to announce the 2017-2018 award winners. We had many players that had a standout year which made it difficult to narrow down and in one category we actually picked two players to share the honors. Congratulations to all. The presentations will be prior to game 1 of the Championship round at Voorhees.
Shawnee is making its first appearance in recent memory and Moorestown finds itself the top seed after a 15-1-2 season. The games are scheduled to be played starting on March 12th as Cherokee will host DMA at 8:45 at Voorhees Skate Zone. Moorestown will begin play on Tuesday March 13th at Voorhees at 7:00. Kyle Peters scored one minute into the overtime period as Team Simmonds rallied from a three goal deficit to defeat Team Giroux 9-8 in the Junior-Senior Showcase game held at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Max Kuznetsov led Team Giroux with six goals. Dominic Garrozzo had three goals and four assists and Kyle Peters added a hat trick for Team Simmonds. Luke Dobbs opened the scoring giving Team Giroux the early 1-0 lead. Dennis Campbell tied the game at 1-1 at the five minute mark.
Luke Dobbs had a hat trick and Anthony DeFrancisco added two goals as Moorestown ended the regular season with a 13-0 romp over Lower Cape May in action played at Voorhees. The Quake put the game away with an eight goal second period as Moorestown finished the regular season in first place in Tier I and will be the top seed in the tournament and will open against Washington Township. Goals by Dobbs and Andrew Jordan twenty two seconds apart gave Moorestown a 2-0 lead just four minutes into the game.
Vinny Salerno scored two goals as Kingsway defeated Lower Cape May 8-1 in action played at Hollydell on Friday night. Kingsway took advantage of the man advantage as they scored consecutive goals on the power play with Nick Bellapigna connecting with two men in the box at the six minute mark. Corey Owens made it 2 -0 just over two minutes later scoring his seventh of the season. Goals by JJ Fogelman and Salerno with four minutes left in the period gave Kingsway a 4-0 lead after one.
The 2017-2018 SJHSHL draft for the Junior-Senior Showcase game was conducted on Tuesday night as the coaches for Team Simmonds and Team Giroux gathered to make their selections. Team Giroux, who will be coached by Daryl Sporer from Moorestown and assisted by Scott Busler from Cherry Hill East won the toss and selected Max Kuznetsov from Eastern with their first pick. Team Simmonds who will be coached by Scott McKay from Cherokee and assisted by John Francis from Kingsway selected Dominic Garrozzo from Washington Township. The nominees for the 2017-2018 Junior/Senior Showcase game have been released. The game will be played on Wednesday, February 7th at the Voorhees Skate Zone at 7:05. Tickets are $5. Head coach from Moorestown will team with head coach from Cherry Hill East to oppose head coach from Cherokee who will team with head coach from Kingsway. Robert Falese scored three goals as Shawnee had little trouble in defeating Lower Cape May 10-0 in game action played in Voorhees on Monday night. Thomas Caputo and David Hoftiezer added two goals each as Shawnee would score five goals in the second period to break the game open. After goals by Caputo and Falese gave Shawnee a 2-0 lead after one, they would double that in the first four minutes of the second period on goals by Kevin Casciato and Ryan Feast and the lead was 4-0. Midway through the period Caputo would get his second and just over three minutes later Todd Minshall would connect for his third of the season and suddenly it was 6-0.
Jake Kelley and Samuel Libetti scored two goals each as Cherokee had little trouble in defeating Lower Cape May 10-0 at Voorhees on Monday night. Cherokee would score a season high nine goals in the first period and never looked back. Kelley scored right after the opening faceoff, just thirteen seconds into the game. Hunter Ray would make it 2-0 just over one minute later. Twenty four seconds later Libetti would get his first of two on the night and if you got there late the score was already 3-0 less than two minutes in.
