Jake Nole scored with under two minutes left in the first overtime as Clearview ended Riverfront’s season with a 4-3 win in late game action played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. The teams traded goals in the opening period with Maxwell Luz giving Riverfront a 1-0 lead midway through the period and Clearview getting a goal late in the period from Mike DeFelice to tie the game at 1-1 after one. Austin Wilk gave Riverfront a 2-1 lead forty seconds into the second period, but right after the center ice face-off, Chris Geary tied the score at 2-2 for Clearview. The goals came fifteen seconds apart.

In the continuing tradition here at SJIceHockey, we are pleased to announce the 2017-2018 award winners. We had many players that had a standout year which made it difficult to narrow down and in one category we actually picked two players to share the honors. Congratulations to all.  The presentations will be prior to game 1 of the Championship round at Voorhees.

Anthony Santa Maria scored his second goal of the game two minutes into the second overtime as Mainland defeated Riverfront 5-4 in an opening round playoff game played at Hollydell on Friday night. Gavin Dierkhising scored all four Riverfront goals. Gage Grist added a hat trick for Mainland. Santa Maria opened the scoring in the first period just over one minute into the game. Just about one minute later Dierkhising would tie the game at 1-1, getting his first of four. Grist would give Mainland a 2-1 lead at the eleven minute mark and would add a short-handed breakaway with one second left in the period and Mainland took a 3-1 lead into the second period.

Shawnee is making its first appearance in recent memory and Moorestown finds itself the top seed after a 15-1-2 season. The games are scheduled to be played starting on March 12th as Cherokee will host DMA at 8:45 at Voorhees Skate Zone. Moorestown will begin play on Tuesday March 13th at Voorhees at 7:00. Please check back for the complete schedule, to be posted in the Forum. The 5th annual NJ/DE Flyers cup teams have been selected and here are the rankings...

Kyle Peters scored one minute into the overtime period as Team Simmonds rallied from a three goal deficit to defeat Team Giroux 9-8 in the Junior-Senior Showcase game held at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Max Kuznetsov led Team Giroux with six goals. Dominic Garrozzo had three goals and four assists and Kyle Peters added a hat trick for Team Simmonds. Luke Dobbs opened the scoring giving Team Giroux the early 1-0 lead. Dennis Campbell tied the game at 1-1 at the five minute mark.

The 2017-2018 SJHSHL draft for the Junior-Senior Showcase game was conducted on Tuesday night as the coaches for Team Simmonds and Team Giroux gathered to make their selections. Team Giroux, who will be coached by Daryl Sporer from Moorestown and assisted by Scott Busler from Cherry Hill East won the toss and selected Max Kuznetsov from Eastern with their first pick. Team Simmonds who will be coached by Scott McKay from Cherokee and assisted by John Francis from Kingsway selected Dominic Garrozzo from Washington Township. Here are the remaining selections for both teams:

Matt Kilkenny scored three goals and added two assists and Kyle Peters added two goals and two assists as HLV used a six goal first period and went on to defeat Riverfront 10-3 in Tier II action played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. The teams would combine for eight goals in a wild first period, with six coming in the first six minutes. Peters and Kevin Yang scored goals in the first two minutes as HLV led 2-0. Daniel Taylor would get Riverfront on the board at the four minute mark, but goals by Kilkenny and Zachary Stoor ninety seconds apart had the lead to 4-1.

The nominees for the 2017-2018 Junior/Senior Showcase game have been released. The game will be played on Wednesday, February 7th at the Voorhees Skate Zone at 7:05. Tickets are $5. Head coach from Moorestown will team with head coach from Cherry Hill East to oppose head coach from Cherokee who will team with head coach from Kingsway. We will conduct a live draft next week-date and time to be announced so stay tuned. Here are your 2017-2018 nominees...

Gavin Dierkhising second goal of the night on the power play with just over five minutes left in the game gave Riverfront a 3-3 tie against Clearview in Tier II action played in Voorhees. Sean Cantwell and Colin Hughes exchanged goals in the first period, for Hughes it was his team high 19th of the season and that’s where we stood after one period. Dierkhising scored the only goal of the second period this one on the power play as Riverfront took a 2-1 lead into the third period. The View would rally in the third period as they would score twice in less than two minutes to take the lead.

Ryan Lasalvia had a hat trick as seven different players scored as HLV rolled over Riverfront 9-1. HLV would score five goals in the third period to break the game open. Riverfront actually led 1-0 after one period on a goal by Brennan McCarty, his second of the season. Early in the second period, Lasalvia would tie the game at 1-1 scoring on the power play. Matt Saavas would give HLV the lead for good three minutes later notching his fifth of the year. Kyle Peters would get his team leading 12th goal at the six minute mark and Lasalvia added another power play goal late in the period and HLV led 4-1 after two.
