Kyle Rink stopped 33 shots as Washington Township opened 2017 with a 4-3 win over Shawnee in SJHSHL action played in Voorhees. Rink was strong throughout the game with Shawnee scoring all three goals on the power play. Township scored two goals in the six eight minutes to lead 2-0 on goals by Joe Crincoli and Donovan Haslett. Shawnee would connect on their first opportunity on the power play as Andrew Snyder would score his first of the season to cut the lead to 2-1 heading into the second period.

Matthew Schemelia scored two goals as Shawnee defeated Cinnaminson 6-5 at the Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees. Cinnaminson scored three goals in the first period to lead 3-2, with Connor Farkas, Dawson, and Nehring and Mike O’Brien tallying for Cinnaminson, Shawnee got goals from Evan Glean and Schemelia. The lead grew to 4-2 as Anthony Lorino scored three minutes into the second period but goals by Anthony Poppalardo and Schemelia tied the score at 4-4 after two.

The list of nominees from each SJHSHL team has been announced for the Junior/Senior Showcase game to be played on January 31st at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Each team will have 12 forwards, 6 defenseman and 3 goalies. In addition, 3 alternates will be chosen in the event a player selected cannot make the game. The league will conduct a live draft streamed on SJIceHockey.com at a date to be announced. Here are the nominees:

Drew Murtha scored twice as Williamstown defeated Shawnee 4-1 in SJHSHL action in the final Friday night game at Hollydell for 2016. Murtha scored the only goal of the first period on a feed from Dennis Campbell late in the period as he banked the puck off the boards to send Murtha in all alone to make it 1-0. Early in the second period Murtha would connect on the power play, again from Campbell and the lead was 2-0. Ian Engel kept Shawnee off the board making several big saves down low.

Ryley Bergeson scored all four goals as Shawnee defeated HLV 4-1 in SJHSHL action at Voorhees. HLV took a 1-0 lead as Conor Humphrey scored a power play goal at the nine minute mark of the first period. That lead lasted until the four minute mark of the second period when Bergeson would get his first from Ian Plummer and Todd Minshall. Five minutes later that same combination would hook up for the go ahead goal and Shawnee led 2-1 after two.

Ryan Andrews scored twice and Alec Miller stopped 30 shots as Washington Township JVA defeated Shawnee JVA 6-2 in action in Pennsauken. It was Miller’s third win in a row and since joining the team in November is 5-3 overall. Ian Plummer and Steven Kanakaris traded goals in the first period with Plummer giving Shawnee a 1-0 lead at the six minute mark and Kanakaris tying the game late in the period. Township would score three goals in the second period to take command of the game. Joe Urban scored a power play goal at the five minute mark and five minutes later Harrison Rauh would get his first of the season and a 3-1 lead.

Ross Higgins stopped 23 shots and Cole Dyar scored a short-handed goal in the third period to help Clearview tie Shawnee at 2-2. Shawnee carried much of the play tonight and Clearview did not have the offensive pressure they normally have averaging 40 shots per game coming in, but tonight only generating 22 shots, a season low. Higgins however was the difference tonight, especially late in the third period. Shawnee took a 1-0 lead just four minutes into the game as Cody Charyk connected for his sixth of the season.

Ryley Bergeson scored two goals and Matthew McIntosh stopped 22 shots as Shawnee defeated Cherry Hill 6-3 at the Skate Zone on Monday night. Eric First gave Cherry Hill a 1-0 lead just under three minutes into the game but goals by Bergeson and Anthony Poppalardo less than two minutes apart at the midway point of the period gave Shawnee the lead for good at 2-1. Matt Schemelia would get his first goal of the season late in the period to put Shawnee up 3-1. After a scoreless second period, Bergeson would get his second of the night early in the third to push the lead to 4-1.

Gage Grist scored three goals and Brendan Blight added a goal and two assists as Mainland defeated Shawnee 7-2 in the season opener for both teams. Gage scored the lone goal of the first period with Jacob Graziotto and Brendan Allen getting the assists; it was the first of three assists on the night for Allen. Grist scored an unassisted goal early in the second period and less than two minutes later Blight would net his first of the season and the lead was 3-0. Shawnee would get on the board less than one minute later as Nick Simonetti would connect to cut the lead to 3-1.
