St. Josephs Articles 2018-2019
St Joe’s defeated Mainland 13-4 to win the JVB Championship in action played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees on Monday night. St Joe’s scored five goals in the first period to take control of the game and never looked back. Varsity forward Deaglan Kelly led the offense scoring six goals, Cooper Root added four goals. Mainland was led by James Murray with two goals. Robert Davis, Zachary Dean and Vincent Sabato also scored for St Joe’s.

We are pleased with the league allowing us to recognize several players and a coach and their outstanding contributions they have made for their team. With at least two to three players considered for each category, we have finalized our decision. The tradition continues here at SJIceHockey as we honor the best of 2018-2019 season in the SJHSHL. Listed below are this year’s recipients:
Jake Frankenfield scored eighteen seconds into overtime to give Team Simmonds a 5-4 win over Team Giroux in the Junior-Senior showcase game played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees last night. Frankenfield had two goals on the night and won the game’s MVP, donated and presented by Training Aspects Ki Vaks and Rob Jost. Team Giroux took a 2-0n lead on goals by Austin Wilk and Sam Libetti. Team Simmonds would respond with goals from Ryan Feist late in the first period and seconds later a tying goal by Anthony Poppalardo. Team Simmonds would take a 3-2 lead as Mike Liberty from Mainland would score in the second period.
Elliott Schon scored three goals as Cherry Hill East defeated St Joe’s 9-2 in the season finale for both teams at Hollydell on Friday night. St Joe’s took the lead scoring a power play goal at the eight minute mark with Cooper Root getting his seventh of the year. That lead lasted thirty seconds as Brian Cutler would tie the game at 1-1 with his first of the season. The teams would trade goals in the opening three minutes of the second period after Ben Snyder gave East a 2-1 lead, St Joe’s Kevin Glass would rip one home to tie the game at 2-2. That would be all the scoring for St Joe’s as East would score the next seven.
The draft was held last night for the Junior-Senior Showcase game which will be held this Sunday night at the SkateZone in Voorhees at 7:25. Coach McKay from Cherokee won the right to pick first and he choose Jeremy Ambrose. Coach Glick selected Sam Libetti; it was the first time that two players from the same team, Cherokee were picked first by each team. Listed below in order are the teams, Team Simmonds is Coach McKay and Team Giroux is Coach Glick:
The nominees for the 2018-2019 Junior-Senior Showcase game have been released. The game will be played on Sunday, January 27th at the Voorhees Skate Zone at 7:00. Tickets are $5. On Thursday, January 24th we will conduct a live draft on SJIceHockey.com beginning at 7:00. The coaches will be Scott McKay from Cherokee and Mike Glick from Washington Township. On a night when Cherry Hill East honored their graduating senior class with five varsity and three JV players, it was the underclassmen that came through as East defeated St Joe’s 4-2 at the Skate Zone in Voorhees on Monday night. John Gallen gave East a 1-0 midway through the first period with Thomas Papa getting the assist. Less than two minutes later Elliott Schon would score his tenth goal of the season and East led 2-0. St Joe’s goalie Mike Neal was keeping his team in the game as East outshot St Joe’s 14-4. Cooper Root would put St Joe’s on the board late in the period connecting for his sixth goal of the season and despite being outplayed, St Joe’s trailed just 2-1 heading into the second period.
With St Joe’s and Clearview locked in a 2-2 game with five minutes left the View would respond with three goals and went on to defeat St Joe’s 5-2 in Tier II action at Hollydell. Chase Dyar led the offense with two goals. The View built a 2-0 lead after one period on goals by Steven Lento on the power play midway through the period. And Dyar would score in the last one of the period. St Joe’s would get one back in the second period as Ryan Lasserre would connect for his fifth of the season and after two periods the View led 2-1.
Trailing 2-1 entering the third period St Joe’s took advantage on their power play opportunities, scoring twice with the man advantage and defeated Riverfront 3-2. The loss kept the Raiders winless on the season. Robert Diehm gave St Joe’s a 1-0 lead just three minutes into the contest scoring the only goal of the first period. St Joe’s outshot Riverfront 10-8, but failed on their one power play opportunity. Riverfront would score twice in the second period with the goals coming just ninety seconds apart.
