Washington Township used a three goal second period to propel itself past Timber Creek 4-0. Mike Stoever stopped all 19 shots as Township moves on in the Double Elimination Tournament, while Timber Creek saw its season come to an end. Having lost to Timber Creek earlier in the playoffs, Township needed a quick start and just under three minutes into the game, Louie DeAngelo scored on the power play to give Township a 1-0 lead. That was the only scoring of the period, although Township did have back to back power plays but failed to capitalize.
Josh Westrom scored with thirty five seconds remaining in the third period to give Cherokee JVA a 4-3 victory over Washington Township JVA. With the victory Cherokee moves into the finals against Moorestown for the championship on March 1st at Voorhees Skate Zone at 7:00. Township scored the only two goals of the first period with Nick Bramante scoring both, one short-handed three minutes into the game and the other goal with the period winding down as Cherokee only managed 3 shots in the opening stanza.
Washington Township scored three goals in the final eight minutes of the third period and defeated Clearview 5-3 before a packed house at Hollydell. Trailing throughout most of the game, Township has still not found its stride in the tournament and assistant coach Chris Macchione attributes the inability to get off to quick starts as one of the main sticking points. As it turns out Coach Macchione was correct as in 15 of their wins during the regular season, Township was usually ahead by two or three goals after one period. In only one game against Cinnaminson did they lead 3-0 after one period and wind up losing.
Trailing 4-2 heading into what would have been their final period of the season, Washington Township came back to life scoring 5 times on their way to a 7-4 win over Delran. Matt Fleekop and Eddie Sarin led the way with two goals and three assists each. Ray Norfo led Delran with a hat trick. Delran led after the first period, 2-1, as Norfo scored twice, sandwiched between was a Township power play goals scored by Fleekop, whose senior leadership was an important part to the success of the team all season.
Bill Schindler held Washington Township off the score board for 37 minutes as Timber Creek built a 4-0 lead, on their way to a 5-2 win over Washington Township. Coming off a season where they averaged eight goals a game, Township was held scoreless through two periods, mainly through the outstanding play of Schindler, especially in the second period when Township launched 20 shots, but could not solve Schindler.
The Williamstown Junior Varsity squad rallied from a two goal deficit in the third period to upset division leader Washington Township 5-4 in action played at Hollydell on Sunday night. The Braves jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Doug Sanders and Rich Busch in the first eight minutes of the game. Township got one back on a shot from behind the net by Nick Bramante to cut the lead to 2-1. Early in the second period Township got the tie as Zack Astore scored on a blast from the point.
Joe Tropiano scored three goals and Nick Hoffmann stopped 26 of 28 shots as Clearview defeated Washington Township 4-2 in front of a sell-out crowd at Hollydell in the last regular season game for both teams. In a game that featured three penalty shots and a fighting major handed out to Erik Heritage the rivalry continues between these two schools.
Six different players scored for Washington Township as they defeated Timber Creek 7-3 at Hollydell on Friday night. After each teams traded goals in the opening period, Dante Fleagle for Township and Mike Schwer for Timber Creek, Dylan Smith put Township ahead 2-1 midway through the second period. Schwer then tied the game at 2-2 scoring on the power play and netted his third goal of the evening scoring short-handed to give Timber Creek a 3-2 lead. Matt Fleekop tied the game on the same power play and we headed into the third period knotted at 3-3.
Washington Township continued its strong run as four different players scored in a 4-2 win over Cherokee. Mike Stoever stopped 32 of 34 shots, surrendering two power play goals. Township led 1-0 after the first period on a goal by Matt Fleekop. That lead grew to 2-0 as Township capitalized on a two-man advantage at the eight minute mark as John Rey slid a pass to Jonathan Paulo who had an empty net to shoot at. It became 3-0 as Louie DeAngelo put home a rebound of a shot by Dante Fleagle with just under four minutes left in the period. Through two periods, Township had played solid defense, stayed out of the penalty box, only one infraction, and Stoever was not giving up any rebounds.
