Washingtown Township 2008-2009
Washington Township and Clearview renewed their rivalry last night at Hollydell and Township got goals from seven different players in a see-saw contest that had the Minutemen winning 7-4. The teams took turns controlling the first two periods with Township scoring four goals in the first period. Ed Sarin put Township up 1-0 with a shot from the slot, and then Louie DeAngelo scored a power play goal when Jonathan Paulo, camped behind the net, slid the puck to him and Township led 2-0. Goals by Dante Fleagle and another power play goal, this time by Matt Fleekop gave Township a 4-0 lead, with the last two goals coming just over one minute apart.

Rancocas Valley remained unbeaten as Mike Walsh scored his fourth goal of the season late in the third period to help rally RV to a 3-3 tie with Washington Township. Township carried the play in the first period launching 15 shots, with Garrett Quinn getting the lone goal for a 1-0 lead heading into the second period. RV tied the game less than five minutes into the second period as Andrew Heinz scored his first goal of the season.
Washington Township hosted Archbishop Ryan at Hollydell on Friday night and struggled offensively in a 6-2 loss to Ryan. With only 5 seniors on their Varsity roster, Township will look to their underclassmen for scoring help, led by sophomore Ed Sarin. Trailing 3-0 after the first period, Township had some opportunities on the power play, but could not convert, when Ryan went up 4-0, Township did convert on a 2-man-advantage as Jonathan Paulo scored on the backhand from in tight to cut the lead to 4-1 after two periods.
The opening round in the Flyers Cup for the SJHSIHL, which sent 5 teams this year, produced a bag of mixed results, here is a brief recap:
