Mario Leone and Donovan Haslett scored two goals each as Washington Township skated past Mainland 6-1 at Hollydell. Scoring two goals in each period, Township got on the board in the opening two minutes as Joseph Ricchezza connected for his third goal of the season. Jared Mara made it 2-0 at the nine minute mark of the period, his tenth of the year.

Jared Mara scored six goals and Donovan Haslett added a goal and four assists as Washington Township pulled away from Clearview 8-3 in Tier I action played in Voorhees. Mara, the senior transfer from Gloucester Catholic, has given Township that scoring threat that Coach Glick has been wanting and is now the team to beat this season. Kyle Rink got his second start in goal this season, with his only other action also against Clearview in a 4-0 win. Mara got the lone goal of the opening period with Haslett and Joe Ricchezza assisting.
Joseph Ricchezza scored the tying goal five minutes into the third period as Washington Township and Black Horse played to a 3-3 tie. The teams traded goals in the first period with Mario Leone scoring his first varsity goal of the season to put Township up, 1-0. Three minutes later Kyle Ringhesier would get his first of two on the night as he connected on the power play to knot the game at 1-1. Mark DiRenzo would see his shot find the net early in the second period as Township capitalized on the power play and took a 2-1 lead.
Donovan Haslet had three goals and two assists and Jared Wharton added two goals and two assists as Washington Township defeated arch rival Clearview 8-5 in Tier I action played at Voorhees. The offense for Township has struggled offensively over the last few years and to score eight in one game had to please Coach Glick. The line of Haslet, Wharton and Jared Mara were a force every shift, with Mara adding one goal and three assists. Anthony DelleRose led Clearview with a hat trick and Robert Penrod added two goals.
Anthony Salvatore broke a 1-1 score with less than four minutes remaining in the game to give Cherokee a 2-1 win over Washington Township in a battle of the last two league champions. Township scored the only goal of the first period as Joseph Ricchezza scored his first goal of the season, unassisted just three minutes into the game. Township had a golden opportunity to add to that lead with a two-man advantage late in the period but failed to capitalize. Cherokee would tie the score at 1-1 at the six minute mark of the second period with Sam Libetti getting the equalizer.
Alexander Marcucci had a goal and two assists as Washington Township defeated Cinnaminson 4-3 in the season opener for both teams at the Skate Zone in Voorhees on Monday night. Township jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first period on goals by Chad Castorina and a power play goal by Jarred Strickon. Cinnaminson would bounce back in the second period to tie the game as Alex Richardson would score early in the period and Dawson Nehring would get the first of his two goals on the night with just under three minutes left in the period to knot the game at 2-2.
With the start of the 2015-2016 SJHSHL season on September 25th, the league and its president Mike Pontonio are trying to bring purity back to the league. In hockey terms purity is defined as all the players on your team go to the same school, plain and simple. With the rising costs and some many travel teams available, playing for your high school doesn’t mean as much as it used to. Although for a core group, it still has some meaning.
