As we come to an end of the 2015-2016 season had a few final thoughts and observations about this season. Does anyone remember that just a few years ago Kingsway went winless and now the last 2 years have turned that program around? They took their lumps and beatings by joining the Tier I division, but it has paid off and they have also grown their fan base. With their win on Friday night against Township, Cherokee has become one of the most successful high school programs in our region. Love them or hate them, you cannot argue with their accomplishments, winning 6 out of the last 7 titles is a feat that might not be duplicated. Coach McKay has built a strong program and his team looks even stronger for next season.
The second annual NJ/DE Flyers cup will be held the week of March 14th. Cherokee and Washington Township will play at the Skate Zone in Voorhees with dates and times to be announced. Moorestown and Kingsway will travel to the Pond in Delaware Monday, March 14th, times to be announced. Please come out and support your team and congratulations to all the teams on being selected. Here are the teams nominated along with their seeding:
Colin Donahue scored all three goals as Lower Cape May ended the season for Williamstown with a 3-0 win at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Donahue scored the only goal of the first period at the eight minute mark with Kadin Donahue getting the assist. Jared Sweeten would stop all 29 shots for Lower Cape and Williamstown failed to capitalize on the man advantage as they were 0-4 on the power play.
Donovan Haslett’s shot from the point found its way into the net with just over three minutes left in the game to snap a 6-6 tie and give Team Giroux a 7-6 win in a very entertaining Junior/Senior Showcase game held at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Kenny Weightman had a hat trick for Team Giroux; Nick Frangos led Team Vorachek also with a hat trick. The game was back and forth in the opening period with Weightman and Frangos exchanging goals in the opening minutes. After Weightman gave his squad a 2-1 lead, Frangos would tie the game midway through the period.
Dom Salerno, Mike Moss and Matt Kudless each scored two goals as Kingsway defeated Williamstown 9-0 in the first game of the double elimination tournament of the SJHSHL. Salerno scored right after the opening face-off and Kingsway led 1-0 just eight seconds into the contest. Moss made it 2-0 scoring a short-handed goal at the four minute mark. Moss and Matt Smith set up Vincenzo Salerno for a late goal and Kingsway led 3-0 after one period. Moss and Kudless scored goals two minutes apart early in the second period and the lead was 5-0.
The SJHSHL will hold the Junior/Senior Showcase game this Wednesday, February 3rd at 8:30PM at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Admission is $5. David Cutler scored three goals and Kris Hastings, Mike Bello and Justin Bryan added two goals each as Cherry Hill East rolled past Williamstown 10-1 in Tier II action in Voorhees on Monday night. Four goals in each of the first two periods would blow open the game as Cherry Hill improved to 16-2 on the season. Cutler scored in the first three minutes of the game and it stayed 1-0 until later in the period. East would score three goals in fifty-five seconds to build a 4-0 lead after one period .Hastings and Bryan would score twenty seconds apart and Cutler would add his second of the night thirty-five seconds later.

Dom Salerno had a hat trick and Mike Moss added two goals and two assists as Kingsway defeated Williamstown 6-2 on senior night at Hollydell. Clearly the two best players on the ice tonight, both created numerous scoring opportunities when they were on the ice. Moss opened the scoring just three minutes into the game. Then with Williamstown on the power play with a chance to tie the game, Salerno jumped on a loose puck and scored short-handed with five minutes left in the period and a 2-0 advantage.
