In keeping with our tradition, SJIceHockey.com is pleased to announce our annual hockey awards given to the players we feel stood out. This year was more difficult than in the past as we had many players in all our categories, but after many discussions here are the selections:
Co-Player of the Year: Sean Fleming - Rancocas Valley. Sean had a record setting year as he set the league record for points in a season with 110.
Co-player of the Year: Eddie Sarin - Washington Township. Eddie set the club record for points with 89 and also scored 50 goals. One of the best two-way players in the league.
Best Defenseman: John Quinlan - Cherokee. John leads the defensive minded Cherokee Chiefs as they allowed less than 3 goals per game.
Breakout Player of the Year: Alec Nicolai - Moorestown. Alec, just a sophomore, after scoring 14 goals as a freshman, came back with 40 goals this year.
Leadership Award: Billy Bascou - Eastern. Billy was asked to do a lot this year, playing back on defense at times and carrying the scoring load as he tallied career highs with 48 goals and 93 total points.
Tier 3 Player of the year: Brandon James - Mainland. Brandon has won this for the second consecutive year, this year leading the league in scoring and helping Mainland to another undefeated season.
Coach of the Year: Tim Fingerhut - Shawnee. Not only did Shawnee lose players to graduation, they had 2 players transfer, including the starting goalie. Despite these set-backs, Tim led Shawnee to a 10-12-2 record and was in almost every game.
JVA Player of the Year: Eric Mitchell - Clearview. Eric led Cherokee with 17 goals this season while splitting his time with the varsity as well.
JVB Player of the year: Galen Wood - Shawnee. Galen led his team in scoring with 16 goals and tied for the league lead in points as his team finished in first.
Congratulations to all our selections, and come out and show your appreciation on Wednesday night March 3rd, the first game of the Finals.
