Jesse Gimbel scored three goals as Delran began the playoffs with a 5-4 win over Clearview in the opening game played at Hollydell. Ed Moore led Clearview with two goals. After a scoreless first period Gimbel put Delran up 1-0 scoring in the opening minute of the second period. Ray Norfo made it 2-0 at the ten minute mark as he picked up a loose puck in the slot and found the back of the net. Marc Horowitz was strong in goal for Delran and kept Clearview off the board until the five minute mark when Mike Vulpio scored a short-handed goal to cut the lead to 2-1. The goal was the first of the year for the young defenseman.
Clearview tied the game at 2-2 one minute later as Moore put home a rebound of a shot by Campbell, who had broken in all alone. Delran responded thirty seconds later with Dave Hoelz scoring from down low and Delran took a 3-2 lead into the third period. Campbell tied the score at 3-3 midway through the period and we stayed that way until the three minute mark with Gimbel getting the game winner. Gimbel added an empty net goal for a 5-3 lead. Moore added his second goal with eighteen seconds left and despite pulling the goalie Clearview could not get the equalizer.
