Corey Owens scored in the third overtime to give Kingsway a 3-2 win over Shawnee in SJHSHL action played at Hollydell on Friday night. With the win Kingsway moves into the championship bracket and will await the winner of the EHT-Shawnee game. The Dragons jumped out to a 2-0 lead with Nick Bellapigna and Mike Ayars scoring goals in the opening period. Freshman goalie Mike Lieze got the start in nets for Kingsway and stopped thirty two shots and kept Shawnee off the board until the six minute mark of the second period when David Hoftiezer would break through for Shawnee to cut the lead to 2-1.
Moments after Shawnee scored they had an opportunity on the power play, but Lieze made several stops down low to keep them off the board. After pulling the goalie in the final minute Shawnee got the equalizer as Dylan DiGrazio scored on a feed from Anthony Poppalardo and we went into the first overtime. Neither team wanted to make a mistake so there were not many chances. In the second overtime, Shawnee got called for too many men on the ice, but Kingsway failed to capitalize. Then in the third overtime, both teams seemed gassed, and it was Owens who scored from the slot to end the game and propel Kingsway into the Championship round.
