Max Ramos stopped 23 shots and goals by Eric Lauk and Matt Bishop were just enough as Clearview defeated H/L/V 2-1 to win the Tier II championship at Hollydell. After a scoreless first period Lauk, recently named Breakout Player of the Year, deflected a cross-ice pass from Norman Angel to give the View a 1-0 lead just two minutes into the second period. Bishop made it 2-0 at the nine minute mark as his shot along the ice, through a maze of players, found the net, John Garbarino getting the assist.
Leading 2-0 after two, Coach Walters felt that was enough and his strategy for the third period was to play a 1-2-2 trapping defense and despite H/L/V getting a power play goal with nine minutes left to cut the lead to 2-1, they stuck to their plan and when there was a breakdown, Ramos was there to shut the door. Led by the tenacious fore-checking of Mike Vulpio and Lauk, along with strong defense from Angel, Bishop, Tyler Richardson, Ryan Lauk and Kody Basile the View hung on for the win. Congratulations to Coach Walters and his staff.
