On a day that was perfect to play hockey outdoors, the Wings of Steel traveled to Central Park in New York to take on the NY Rangers. It was a cold brisk day where the players didn't mind playing hockey during the daylight hours at Lasker Rink in the middle of Central Park. Michael Mauger scored the only goal during the first period which proved to be the game winner. The Wings of Steel won this game 2-0 and ended their two game losing streak.

I watched a coach have his team gather around a television that had been rolled into the gym. I was thinking, they're about to watch some game film, boy was I wrong! This coach pulls out the "Insanity" DVD. The issue, as I see is it is this, the head coach will let their team know how important any aspect of their program is by how much attention they give to it. Case in point, when a coach is going over an offense or defense, do you honestly believe they would pop in a DVD to show the team? I don't believe so, that coach would be teaching, interacting with their team. They would be encouraging cajoling doing things that coaches do.

Brian Miller and Cole Zucker each scored two goals and Aaron Huffnagle added four assists as Cherokee defeated Parkland 6-3 in the AA Finals of the Flyers Cup. Cherokee becomes the first South Jersey team to ever win the AA championship. The Chiefs were totally dominant from the start, out-shooting the over matched Trojans 30-11 and controlling play for the entire game. The Chiefs took the toughest road to the title as they were seeded fifth, knocked off the top seed in the tournament in CB South and had no home games.

Tim Ryan scored three goals as Cherokee won the JVA Championship defeating Washington Township 5-3 at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Ryan scored both goals of the opening period, the first one just nine seconds into the game, the second short-handed as Shayne Toran sent him in all alone. Township would trail 3-0 as Tim Connolly scored at the nine minute mark of the second period but just over one minute later Matt Grosmick would cut the deficit to 3-1 scoring an unassisted goal. Then with a chance on the power play late in the period Jimmy Pollock put home a rebound on a shot by Eric Sailor to make it 3-2.

Zach Robins scored five goals as Mainland rallied from a two goal deficit to defeat Black Horse 6-5 in the JVB Title game played at Voorhees. Trailing 3-1, Mainland scored five unanswered goals to take a 6-3 lead, before Black Horse rallied back. Scott Veneziale and Nick Finocchiaro scored in the opening nine minutes to give Black Horse a 2-0 lead. Mainland got one back late in the period as Robins scored with Tim Vant getting the first of his three assists. Kevin Oneill scored at the five minute mark of the second period to give Black Horse a 3-1 advantage. Mainland then would score four goals in the next six minutes to capture a 5-3 lead after two. Robins would account for three of them and Frank Christy got the other.

Austin Haslett scored twice, his second coming with less than two minutes remaining in the second overtime period as Washington Township JVA defeated Clearview JVA 4-3 and advance to the JVA Championship game. Township will meet Cherokee on Tuesday night at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. After neither team could score in the first period, Eric Benton put Township up 1-0 early in the second period. Clearview would commit back-to-back penalties to give Township a 2 man advantage and they would capitalize.

Matt Cloud had three goals and Brian Miller added two as Team Briere defeated team Giroux 11-2 last night at Hollydell. The game was close after two periods but Team Briere blew the game open with six goals in the third period. Brandon Mead scored twice for Team Giroux. This year the league supplied jerseys and socks to each player. And Joe Walters supplied both teams with hoodies as well.

Max Ramos stopped 23 shots and goals by Eric Lauk and Matt Bishop were just enough as Clearview defeated H/L/V 2-1 to win the Tier II championship at Hollydell. After a scoreless first period Lauk, recently named Breakout Player of the Year, deflected a cross-ice pass from Norman Angel to give the View a 1-0 lead just two minutes into the second period. Bishop made it 2-0 at the nine minute mark as his shot along the ice, through a maze of players, found the net, John Garbarino getting the assist.

Eric Lauk had two goals and one assists as Clearview avoided elimination and defeated H/L/V 4-2 in Tier 2 playoff action at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. The two teams will meet again on Wednesday night at Hollydell to decide the champion. H/L/V took a 1-0 lead just ninety seconds into the game as Karl Houwen scored his first goal of the playoffs. Clearview tied the score at 1-1 scoring their first of three power play goals as Lauk put home a shot by Matt Bishop. Two minutes later Bishop would score on the power play with Lauk getting the helper and Clearview led 2-1 after one period.

Casey Forte had two goals and Aaron Huffnagle added a goal and two assists as Cherokee defeated Washington Township 6-3 and won its third straight SJHSIHL Championship in front of a packed house at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Cherokee never trailed in the game and got off to a quick start as Jake Toran scored just ninety seconds into the game. Huffnagle made it 2-0 just about thirty seconds later, both goals coming on wrap around shots.

Three periods, two overtimes and 9 shoot-out chances could not yield a winner in the Washington Township-Moorestown game, until Frank Hughes ripped a shot into the net to give Township a thrilling 4-3 win over Moorestown and the right to meet Cherokee in the finals on Monday night. Before we get to how we finished let’s talk about how we started. Moorestown forward Mike Katz had all three Moorestown goals, scoring two in the first three minutes of the game. Down 2-0 Township got one back as they broke in 3-on-2 at the eight minute mark and Doug Sanders made a nice pass to Tyler Benton and his goal cut the lead to 2-1.

Nick Taylor had two goals and Ian Martin made 29 saves as Riverfront defeated Mainland 5-2 to win the Tier III Title. Winning wire to wire like they did Riverfront led the division all season and went undefeated in the tournament. Mainland took a 1-0 lead just two minutes into the game as Paddy McFadden scored his first of the playoffs. Riverfront responded thirty seconds later as Taylor tied the score. Taylor would score late in the period to give Riverfront a 2-1 lead after one.

Max Ramos stopped everything Black Horse threw at him as Clearview won 2-0 and advanced to the finals and will face H/L/V. A bitter rivalry has grown throughout the year and the league assigned two of the top officials for the game and they did a good job in keeping the game in check. Clearview would score the lone goal of the first period as Kody Basile put home a rebound of a shot by Matt Bishop. Ramos stoned Nick Kilcourse on a breakaway moments later to keep the score 1-0.

Doug Henkel stopped 32 shots and Sam Belanger scored two goals as H/L/V advanced to the Tier II finals with a 4-1 win over Clearview. Mike Cullen scored the only goal of the opening period as Clearview led 1-0. The second period was all H/L/V as they scored three goals, after Belanger tied the game at 1-1 at the five minute mark, Alex Mastrokyriakos gave H/L/V the lead for good just twelve seconds later to make it 2-1. Henkel would shut the door on the Clearview offense not allowing another goal in recording the win.

Brian Miller had 4 goals and Aaron Huffnagle and Cole Zucker added a goal and three assists as Cherokee blew by Moorestown 9-2 and advanced to the Championship game next Monday. Jimmy Witkoski stopped 39 shots for the Chiefs who are one win away from their third consecutive title. Moorestown was a slight favorite coming into tonight, but never was in the game, Cherokee broke on top 2-0 in the first period on goals by Huffnagle and Zucker. Will Sulpizio got one back on the power play early in the second period, by three goals over the next three minutes broke the game open at 5-1.

Doug Sanders scored twice as Washington Township pulled away from Shawnee 5-0 and advanced in the playoffs and will meet Moorestown with a chance to get back to the finals. Township had 5 power play chances in the first period; twice they had a 2 man advantage and would only capitalize once as Sanders scored at the seven minute mark. Shawnee goalie Gavin Hambrose saved his best performance for tonight as Township launched 44 shots on net.

Nick Kilcourse, Collin Miller and John Kennedy scored third period goals as Black Horse came back to defeat EEW 4-2 in Tier II playoff action at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. The loss eliminated the EEW from playoff contention. The teams traded goals in the first period with Peter Laviolette scoring in the opening thirty seconds to give the EEW a 1-0 lead. Black Horse countered one minute later as Bryan Popiolek tied the game at 1-1.

In a crazy third period where five goals were scored in the last five minutes Mainland held on to defeat St Joe’s 6-5 in a Tier III battle to open up the action at the Skate Zone. With the loss St Joe’s was eliminated from the playoffs. Mainland jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Sean Bowman and one on the power play by Josh Handshaw. St Joe’s would rally late in the period as Nick Frangos found Paulie Petrongolo in the slot with just over one minute left in the period. And with just 12 seconds left Tristen Ridarelli tied the score at 2-2.

Black Horse used a five goal second period to defeat Cinnaminson 6-1 and end the season for the Pirates. Leading just 1-0 after one period on a goal by Kody Reilly, his first of two on the night, Black Horse would go on to score four goals in a span of six minutes to break open the game.

Five different players scored for H/L/V as they defeated the EEW 5-1 in playoff action at Voorhees on Monday night. Doug Henkel stopped 15 shots in getting the win. H/L/V got things started early as Alex Mastrokyriakos scored just two minutes into the game. Matt Cloud made it 2-0 just about two minutes later scoring a power play goal. Sam Belanger made it 3-0 with assists going to Brian Clegg and Pat Rizzo.

Jeff Steinmann had a natural hat trick and Ian Martin stopped 39 shots as Riverfront defeated Mainland 7-2 in the double elimination tournament in Tier III. Mainland broke on top first as Carmine Morelli scored on the power play with less than five minutes left in the first period. Riverfront would respond as Steinmann scored two goals in twenty six seconds in the final three minutes to make it 2-1 after one. Early in the second period Steinmann completed his hat trick to give Riverfront a 3-1 lead just two minutes into the period. Goals by Mike McFadden and Matt Gajderowicz gave Riverfront a commanding 5-1 advantage after two.

Mike Katz and Eric Schwartz each scored two goals as Moorestown opened their playoff run with a 5-0 win over Shawnee. Robert Papotto stopped all 20 shots in nets for Moorestown. Papotto’s best period was the second as Shawnee had four power play opportunities but failed to connect on any advantage.

Nick Frangos had a goal and two assists and Troy Altbaum stopped 24 shots as St Joe’s defeated Middle Township 3-2 to stay alive in the double elimination playoff format. Middle Township had its season end, but not without a great effort, with just 7 skaters, they were in the game until the very end. Altbaum made a game saving stop on Dom Donoflio with just seconds left in regulation.

Tyler Richardson scored twice as Clearview defeated Black Horse 5-2 in a Tier 2 playoff game at Voorhees on Friday night. Missing captain and team leader Mike Vulpio, Clearview needed everyone to step-up tonight and everyone contributed. Kody Basile put Clearview up 1-0 scoring a power play goal just five minutes into the game, with Ryan and Eric Lauk getting the assists. Black Horse would tie the game about five minutes later, scoring their goal on the power play as James Malseed got the goal with Nick Kilcourse and Brandon Graham getting the helpers.

St Joe’s staved off elimination from the double elimination tournament beating Lower Cape May 9-0 at Hollydell on Friday night. Troy Altbaum stopped all 24 shots in pitching the shutout. Paulie Petrongolo added two goals and two assists. St Joe’s wasted little time in taking control as Nick Frangos scored an unassisted goal as he intercepted a cross ice pass to make it 1-0. Lower Cape May’s best chance of the period came on a breakaway by Karlson Hughes, but Altbaum stoned him. Lovell made it 2-0 on a feed from Nick Corwonski.

Cherokee had three power play goals and three short-handed goals in defeating Washington Township 8-2 in an opening round playoff game in Tier 1 at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Township had a winning record in the regular season going 2-1-1 and had controlled the play in the first period in all 4 games, allowing just one goal in that span, tonight that was different. Needing a strong start, Township had an opportunity early in the game as they went on the power play, but Jake Toran scored on a breakaway to give Cherokee a 1-0 lead just three minutes into the game. Later in the period Casey Forte would score on a rebound to make it 2-0, this goal came on the power play.

Andrew Dolan scored two goals, one on the power play and one short-handed as the EEW defeated Cinnaminson 4-1 in an opening round game in the Tier II playoff double elimination tournament. After Cinnaminson scored the lone goal of the first period, Peter Selnek scoring unassisted at the 3 minute mark, the EEW tied the score in the opening minute of the second period with Zach Bieriq getting a power play goal with Dolan and Sam Amon getting the assists.

Mainland scored a power play goal and one short-handed and Mike Leroy was solid in goal as they defeated St Joe’s 3-2 in an opening round game in the Tier III Playoffs last night at Voorhees. St Joe’s had a golden opportunity early in the game, with a 2 man advantage for one minute, but failed to capitalize, it would be a sign of things to come. Midway through the period Mainland took advantage of their first opportunity with the man advantage as Carmine Morelli converted with assists going to Jared Anapolle and Paddy McFadden.

Frank Hughes scored once and assisted on two others as Washington Township came back from a two goal deficit to tie H/L/V 3-3 in the regular season finale at Hollydell. It was a fitting end to the night as Township honored their 10 graduating seniors and Hughes figured in on all three goals. While the game did not affect Township in the standings, H/L/V, need a win or a tie to clinch first place in Tier II, as Black Horse and won their game earlier and were now tied for first, pending the outcome of this game.

Tyler Richardson scored twice and Max Ramos picked up his 3rd shutout of the season as Clearview defeated the EEW 5-0 in the final regular season game for both teams. With the win Ramos evened his record at 9-9-1 and lowered his GAA to 2.84. Richardson’s two goals increased his total to 5 for the season, and his first of the night gave Clearview a 1-0 lead just three minutes into the game.

Austin Kohler and Ryan Lauk each scored twice as Clearview defeated the EEW 5-1 in Tier II action at the Skate Zone in Voorhees on Monday night. Playing without their captain and leader Mike Vulpio, who began serving his suspension; Clearview needed eight minutes to finally get one past EEW goalie Brian Mood as Kohler snapped an eight game scoreless streak to give Clearview a 1-0 lead. That lead lasted seven seconds as Peter Laviolette tied the game at 1-1 notching his ninth goal of the year.

Casey Forte scored four goals as Cherokee defeated Shawnee 7-0 in Tier I action played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees on Monday night. Boomer Miller opened the scoring in the first minute of the game lifting a shot on the short side with Jake Toran and Austin Mauger getting the assists. Forte would score the next three goals, his first at the five minute mark of the period with Cole Zucker and Brian Miller getting the helpers.

Kyle Frasier scored a power play goal with just over two minutes left in the third period to give Black Horse a 3-2 win over Clearview in a tough battle between these Tier II teams. The game was played at a high level of intensity and had a playoff atmosphere. After a scoreless first period Clearview broke out on top in the opening minute of the second period with Tyler Richardson scoring on a slap shot from the point, Eric Lauk got the lone assist.

Casey Forte scored a goal midway through the third period as Cherokee tied Moorestown 2-2 in action played in Voorhees. Coming off an 8-4 loss one week ago to Moorestown, where they surrendered 41 shots, tonight they limited Moorestown to just 14. Defense is what will win playoff games and tonight both teams played solid defense.

Ryan McCusker stopped 31 shots and six different players scored for Washington Township as they defeated rival Clearview 6-1 in a game played at the Skate Zone. Riley Griffith scored the only goal of the first period with Frank Hughes and Matteo Jordan getting the assists. Eric Sailor got his first goal of the season early in the second period to make it 2-0. Just about two minutes later Eric Dale scored an unassisted goal for a 3-0 lead for Township.

Macklin Kaiser had three goals and Lawrence Walker added two as Shawnee defeated Cinnaminson 8-1 in early action played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. James Popp scored the lone Cinnaminson goal. Shawnee dominated the first period as they launched 24 shots while scoring three times. Alex Churchill got things going just one minute into the game with Kaiser and Jake Pearlstein getting the helpers.

In the First Annual Philadelphia College Hockey Faceoff, the Penn State Nittany Lions men’s hockey team defeated the Vermont Catamounts by the score of 4-2 in front of 19,529 fans at Wells Fargo Center Saturday night. Leading the way for the Lions were goaltender Matthew Skoff , forward Taylor Holstrom and Justin Kirchhevel. Taylor Holstrom scored the first goal of the College Hockey faceoff at 3:11 into the first period. Holstrom was assisted by Connor Varley and Mark Yanis. Yanis had a cross ice pass to Varley, who then hit Holstrom streaking down center ice. Holstrom dumped the puck into the offensive zone as the Catamounts defense knocked it down.

The teams have been selected for the 2012-2013 Junior/ Senior Showcase game for the SJHSHL. This year the two teams are being called Team Giroux and Team Briere. There are 12 forwards, 6 defenseman and 3 goalies selected. In case some players can not make the game there also were 3 alternates chosen. All the nominees were submitted by the teams and then chosen by a committee. The page listing the players is still being worked on, but if you are a registered member, you will have full access to view the selections. From the Home page, select the "All Star Game" link on the left.

Eric Lauk had three goals and two assists as Clearview jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and held off a charging St Joe’s team 6-4 in cross-over action played at Hollydell on Friday night. Anthony Lovell had a hat trick for St Joe’s. Clearview started in the opening minute of the game as Mike Cullen scored a power play goal with Lauk getting the assist. The lead grew to 2-0 at the eight minute mark as Ryan Lauk broke in with his brother Eric, 2-on-1 and after Ryan hit the post, Eric was there to put home the rebound and a 2-0 lead. Less than three minutes later Eric made it 3-0, this time with Cullen getting the helper.

Township had gone 2-0-1 in the previous meetings this season. Boomer Miller opened the scoring just minutes into the game scoring his 16th goal of the season to give Cherokee a 1-0 lead.

Six different players scored for Washington Township as they defeated Pennsbury 6-0 in a crossover game played at Hollydell on Wednesday night. Playing in the Suburban league, Pennsbury made the journey to Hollydell to battle Township as both teams try and improve their resume as we approach Flyers Cup.

Lawrence Walker scored four goals and Peter Kaz added one as Shawnee defeated Cinnaminson 5-3 last night at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Chris Ciechon gave Cinnaminson a 1-0 lead scoring his first goal of the season at the six minute mark. Shawnee would tie the score at 1-1 as Kaz scored a power play goal about four minutes later. Jeff Steinmann, Michael McFadden and Jordan Bentley scored third period goals as Riverfront rallied from a 4-3 deficit on to defeat Mainland 6-4 in Tier III action at the Skate Zone in Voorhees on Monday evening. In a battle of the top two teams in Tier III, Riverfront increased its lead to six points with the victory.

Chris Popp and Matt Cloud each had a hat trick as H/L/V defeated Middle Township 8-3. With the win H/L/V improved to 10-4-3 and now has a six point lead over Clearview in a battle for the top spot in Tier II. H/L/V launched a season high 61 shots on goal. With the win H/L/V improved to 6-0-2 in their last eight games. Popp scored the first two goals of the game, with Cloud assisting on both, for a 2-0 lead. They came five minutes apart and then Middle Township got one back as Dominic Donoflio notched his first goal of the season to cut the lead to 2-1.

Eight different players scored for Moorestown and they used a five goal second period to roll past Cherokee 8-4 in a showdown between the top 2 teams in Tier I at Voorhees last night. With the win Moorestown now has a five point lead over Cherokee, having played one more game. John Martino gave Cherokee its only lead of the night scoring just over one minute into the game. Eric Schwartz and Tyler Tavormina with give Moorestown a 2-1 lead, scoring goals three minutes apart, with Tavormina’s goal coming on the power play.

Austin Haslett and Jason Smith scored two goals each and Zack Burkhardt stopped 20 shots as Washington Township defeated the EEW 8-1 in action played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Haslett and Billy Wharton scored the only two goals of the first period, both coming about three minutes apart as Township led just 2-0 after one period. While out-shooting EEW 49-21, Burkhardt made several big stops with the game still in the balance, stoning Luke Hussey twice on breakaways. Getting the start due to an illness to McCusker, Burkhardt would lose his shutout midway through the third period as Hussey would net his tenth goal of the season.

Nick Kilcourse scored twice to lead Black Horse over Mainland 7-2 in a cross-over game played at Hollydell. Mainland plays in Tier III, while Black Horse is in Tier II. Brandon Mead opened the scoring for Black Horse scoring his second goal of the year. Mainland would tie the game at 1-1 as Carmine Morelli scored his fifth on the season. Kilcourse would give Black Horse the lead for good with one minute left in the period scoring unassisted.

Six different players scored goals for Moorestown as they defeated Washington Township 7-1 at Hollydell on Friday night. Moorestown has beaten Township in all 4 meetings out-scoring them 21-5. On the flip side Moorestown has lost both games to Cherokee while Township has beaten them twice and tied once, go figure.

Trailing 5-1 after the first period Washington Township came storming back to tie H/L/V 6-6 in action played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees on Monday night. Austin Haslett led Township with three goals; Patrick Rizzo led H/L/V with two goals. H/L/V scored five goals in the opening four minutes with two by Rizzo and one each by Matt Belanger Colin Riera and Nate Fowler had H/L/V leading 5-0. Riley Griffith scored a short-handed goal late in the period to cut the deficit to 5-1 after one.

Cherokee scored six goals in an eight minute span of the first period to jump out to a 6-1 lead and went on to defeat the EEW 8-3 in action played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. John Martino led the attack with three goals and Brian Miller added two goals. Nick Stengel, Avery Harwan and Kevin Hall scored the goals for the EEW. Stengel opened the scoring just one minute into the game as the EEW had the early lead, and it would stay that way for about five minutes, then the Chiefs got rolling as Miller and Martino scored goals twenty four seconds apart to give Cherokee a 2-1 lead.

Clearview failed to capitalize on some golden opportunities against division leader Holy/Lenape/Valley and lost 3-1 in the first game of 2013 for both clubs. The teams traded goals in the opening four minutes of the game, Sam Belanger scoring for H/L/V and Ryan Lauk tallying for Clearview. Matt Cloud would score his team high 14th goal late in the period to give H/L/V a 2-1 lead after one period. Doug Henkel started his sixth game in nets for H/L/V and would turn out to be the difference.

Washington Township rallied from a 2-0 deficit and tied Cherokee 2-2 in the first game of the New Year for both teams. Township has played their best games against Cherokee this season having handed them both their losses, and this is the first game Cherokee has scored more than one goal against Ryan McCusker and company.

Coming off a team record in shots with 63 in their last game Clearview did not record 20 shots as they lost to Moorestown 5-0 at Hollydell on Friday night. It was the second straight loss to Moorestown in the last week, after Clearview had won four games in a row. Vada Mangum recorded his 3rd shutout of the season and William Sulpizio led Moorestown with two goals. After a scoreless first period, Sulpizio gave Moorestown the only goal they would need early in the second period with Chris DeRose and Liam Ridge getting the assists.

Doug Sanders and Austin Haslett each scored two goals as Washington Township defeated Shawnee 7-0 at Hollydell on Friday night. Haslett scored the lone goal of the opening period as he scored down low with just over one minute remaining. Midway through the second period the lead grew to 2-0 as Haslett notched his second of the night and sixth of the season. Zachary Burkhardt got the start in nets and stopped all 17 shots.

Clearview set a record with 63 shots on goal in defeating Middle Township 11-2. Ryan Lauk and Matt Bishop each had a hat trick for Clearview which trailed 1-0 after the first period on a goal by Garrett Brown. Clearview would score five goals in the second period and then blow the game open with a six goal third period. Also scoring for the View was Eric Lauk with two and Austin Kohler, Mason Gagne and Mike Vulpio with one each.

Five different players scored goals in the second period as Moorestown rallied from a 2-0 deficit and defeated The EEW 7-2 at Voorhees on Monday night. After Chris Miller and Kevin Hall gave the EEW a 2-0 lead in the first period, Moorestown would come storming back scoring four goals in a span of five minutes early in the second period. Jeff Briggs got things going scoring a power play goal to cut the lead to 2-1 as the EEW would be short 2 men. Just over one minute later, on the back end of the advantage, Eric Schwartz would tie the game at 2-2 scoring his tenth of the season.

Josh Handshaw scored with two minutes left in the game to snap a 5-5 game and give Mainland a 6-5 win over St Joe’s in a Tier III game played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Leading 4-1 after the first period on goals from Matt Schenkov, Sean Bowman, Tim Vant and Jack Handshaw, Mainland would see that lead evaporate in the second period. St Joe’s would capitalize on two power play opportunities, first in the opening minute of the second period Paulie Petrongolo would cut the deficit to 4-2. Petrongolo would make it 4-3 scoring a short-handed goal and Nick Frangos would notch his second of the night on the power play late in the period.

Max Ramos stopped 29 shots and did not allow a goal after the first period as Clearview defeated Washington Township 3-2 in a game played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. With the game moved from Hollydell due to crowd concerns, the game was delayed due to no one bothered to tell the officials about the switch. After Township took a 1-0 lead five minutes into the game as Shane Moffatt put home a rebound of a shot by Doug Sanders, Clearview tied the score just about two minutes later with David Hall getting the equalizer.

Brian Clegg and Sam Belanger each scored two goals as Holy/Lenape/Valley routed Lower Cape May 10- 0 in Tier II action played in Voorhees on Monday evening. A seven goal first period keyed the H/L/V team with Belanger opening the score fest less than five minutes into the contest. Goals by Nick Falcone, Colin Riera and Clegg over the next four minutes had the lead at 4-0. H/L/V would close the period with three goals in a span of two minutes, with Nate Fowler, RC Randal and Matt Cloud getting the goals.

Nick Frangos and Anthony Lovell scored two goals each and a strong third period helped St. Joe’s defeat Middle Township 6-1 in Tier III action at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Paulie Petrongolo would score one and assist on four goals. Frangos scored the only goal of the opening period, scoring in the final minute. Lovell would score his two goals in a 27 second span early in the second period to give St. Joe’s a 3-0 lead. Cherokee scored early and often in the first period, tallying seven goals as they ran past Cinnaminson 12-0 at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. This was one of those games you fear would happen when a talented Tier I team meets a very young Tier II team, looking for its first win of the season. Dylan Bradley, Cole Zucker and Casey Forte each scored twice, with Bradley opening the scoring just fifteen seconds into the game. And scoring a power play goal midway through the period to make it 2-0.

William Sulpizio scored four goals as Moorestown built a four goal lead and hung on to defeat Holy/Lenape/Valley 7-5 at the Skate Zone in Voorhees on Monday night. Sulpizio scored just 12 seconds into the game but H/L/V would take a 2-1 lead on goals by Brian Clegg and Nate Fowler. Sulpizio would tie the score at 2-2 late in the period. John Yedman gave Moorestown a 3-2 lead at the seven minute mark of the middle period but Colin Riera would score a power play goal about two minutes later and the score was 3-3.

Cole Zucker had four goals, including three in a row in a span of four minutes in the third period, and the Miller brothers, Brian and Boomer each had a hat trick as Cherokee ran over Shawnee 11-1 in an early game played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Lawrence Walker had the lone goal for Shawnee. The Chiefs out-shot Shawnee 43-14 and added two power play goals along with two short-handed goals. It’s been a tough season so far for Shawnee, once a top team in this league.

St Joe’s and the EEW played to a 3-3 tie on Monday night at the Skate Zone with Sam Amon scoring two goals for the EEW. St Joe’s led 2-1 after the first period on goals by Anthony Lovell and Alec Divenuto sandwiched around a goal by Amon. The EEW would score twice in the second period, first Peter Laviolette would score a power play goal and Amon would add his second with Nick Frangos getting the goal for St Joe’s. Both goalies would shut the door after that as Troy Altbaum for St Joe’s and Brian Mood for the EEW would not allow any more goals.

Having been shut out for two periods by Black Horse goalie Aaron Wechter, Shawnee scored two goals in a three minute span to rally back from 2-0 and tie Black Horse at 2-2 in cross-over action played at Hollydell. After a scoreless first period, John Kennedy notched his first goal of the season to give Black Horse a 1-0 lead late in the second period. Mike Katz scored all the goals and Vada Mangum stopped all 32 shots as Moorestown snapped Washington Township’s four game winning streak with a 3-0 win in SJHSIHL action played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. After a scoreless first period, Katz put Moorestown on the board, beating goalie Ryan McCusker early in the second period. That would be all McCusker would surrender until late in the third when Katz would score again to make it 2-0.

Mike Vulpio chipped in with a goal and three assists and Max Ramos had a strong game in nets. Lawrence Walker led Shawnee with two goals. Vulpio opened the scoring just over one minute into the game and Clearview never trailed. After David Hall converted a pass from Vulpio at the five minute mark to make it 2-0. Shawnee broke through in the final seconds as Dante Guzzi notched his first of the season to cut the lead to 2-1.

Former Williamstown goalie Troy Altbaum has found a home playing for St Joe’s of Hammonton as he shut out Lower Cape May 2-0 in action played at Hollydell on Friday night. With Williamstown not fielding a team this year, Altbaum hooked up with the team from Hammonton late in the pre-season and his experience in nets should help St Joe’s this season. Altbaum has started two games and has yet to surrender a goal.

Playing without Casey Forte and Cole Zucker, Cherokee managed a 6-0 win over Black Horse in a cross-over game played at Hollydell. Boomer Miller scored his first two goals of the season to lead the Cherokee attack. Black Horse played mostly under-classmen and kept the game competitive. With the win the Chiefs improved to 2-0 and will face Washington Township on Monday night at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. After Miller made it 2-0 midway through the first period Dave Mazzilli scored on a breakaway to put the Chiefs up 3-0 after the first period.

Doug Sanders and Matteo Jordan scored two goals each as Washington Township had little trouble in defeating Cinnaminson 9-1 at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. With the win Township improved to 3-1 and moved into first place in the Tier 1 division. Ryan McCusker stopped 20 shots and saw his offense launch 54 shots at Cinnaminson goalie Stephen Renshaw. Casey Zawojski snapped a 2-2 game early in the third period scoring a power play goal as Black Horse defeated Clearview 4-3 at the Skate Zone in Voorhees on Monday night. Zawojski would later be ejected for a boarding major which would give Clearview a five minute power play, and after pulling the goalie, Brandon Mead would score an empty net goal with forty seconds left to give Black Horse a two goal cushion at 4-2. Matt Bishop got Clearview to within 4-3 with thirteen seconds left but time would run out for the Pioneers.

Some changes are in store as we begin the 2012/2013 SJHSIHL season, the most significant one being only 4 teams in Tier 1. Cherokee, Washington Township, Shawnee and Moorestown are the four. Clearview is moving into Tier II along with Cinnaminson, Black Horse, EEW and RV/Lenape/Holy Cross.
