Dan Navarra stopped 34 shots and five different players scored for the Chiefs as they defeated Williamstown 5-1 at Hollydell on Friday night. The key to the Williamstown offense runs through Jonathan Ruiz and he was held without a point. Ruiz leads the league in points with 56 and goals with 40. Blaise McCormick opened the scoring for Cherokee as he broke in with Pat Mohnacs 2-on1 and Mohnacs slid the puck to McCormick and his one-timer found the net and the Chiefs led 1-0. It was McCormick’s first goal of the season.

Robert Willwerth had three goals and three assists and Vince Tascione added a hat trick as Shawnee breezed to an 11-3 win over Cherry Hill East in action played at Hollydell on Friday night. The game was originally scheduled at Voorhees for 9:30 but the league moved the Township-Clearview game to that slot and forcibly requested that East-Shawnee play at Hollydell. Unfortunately for East there was a school function and most of the team would have made the 9:30 time, but with the move only 8 players were available.

Jason Spieker had a hand in on all the goals as Cherokee defeated Cinnaminson 5-1 in action played at the Igloo in Mt. Laurel. Spieker, who has missed some games due to injury, led Cherokee with three goals and two assists. Kevin Rafferty scored the lone Cinnaminson goal. After Rafferty gave Cinnaminson a 1-0 lead just two minutes into the game, Spieker would tie the game at 1-1 at the five minute mark scoring unassisted.

Justin Cogbill scored two goals, both on the power play as Washington Township defeated Shawnee 6-2 in SJHSIHL action played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Brandon Cusumano got the start in nets and after giving up two goals in the first ten minutes of the game, shut the door on Shawnee the rest of the game. Shawnee scored with just one minute played as Vince Tascione notched his eleventh of the season, which leads the team.

The rivalry between Washington Township and Clearview was renewed on Friday night as the team met at Hollydell in front of a capacity crowd and around 14 policemen. Township came back from a two goal deficit to win 5-4. Kevin Mello paced the Township attack with two goals. Ed Moore and Taylor Olson led Clearview with two goals each. Clearview jumped out early as they capitalized on the power play just over one minute into the game with Moore burying a nice feed from Eric Mitchell. Later in the period Clearview made it 2-0 as Olson scored his fifth goal of the season. It was at this point that the game changed, Township Coach Glick called a timeout and reminded his team of the game plan, immediately after the timeout, Mello scored his first of two goals to cut the lead to 2-1.

Buddy Robinson, former standout star for the Gloucester Catholic Rams has received a scholarship to play Division 1 hockey for Lake Superior State, in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan. Currently, Buddy is playing for the Hamilton Red Wings of the Ontario Junior Hockey League and is one of the team’s top players. Life for a hockey player can be hectic and overwhelming and is just as crazy for his family, between the different teams, the travel, not to mention the financial sacrifice.

Vineland scored three goals in the final seven minutes of the third period to salvage a tie with Cherry Hill West at 9-9. Vineland is still looking for their first win of the season, though they have two ties, both against West. Dylan Fisher led Vineland with four goals and two assists with Trevor Simpson adding a hat trick. Marty Bell led Cherry Hill West with four goals and Tom McGlynn added two.

Moorestown built a 3-0 lead and had to hang to defeat Cinnaminson 3-2 in SJHSIHL action played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Chris Carnivale scored the lone goal of the first period to give Moorestown a 1-0 lead. Early in the second period Alec Nicolai broke in with Eric Schwartz on a 2-on1 as Nicolai drew over the defenseman; he slid the puck to Schwartz who buried the shot for his sixth goal of the year and a 2-0 lead.

Eddie Sarin is arguably one of the best all-around players to play for Washington Township and with his hat trick against the winless Vikings; he surpassed a milestone in his varsity career, 100 regular season goals. Washington Township won going away 13-1 as Ben Basalma also had a hat trick and the game was over after an eight goal opening period. Steve Sailor added two goals.

Alec Nicolai notched his fourth goal of the night in the last minute as Moorestown rallied to tie Williamstown 8-8 in an offensive display played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Williamstown did win the shootout 2-1 and will have a tie breaker advantage over Moorestown should they need it to determine playoff position with Jonathan Ruiz converting on the Braves last attempt. Ruiz led the Braves attack with a hat trick. It was an uphill battle for Williamstown for most of the night as they trailed throughout. Moorestown jumped out to a 2-0 lead just three minutes into the game, first Nicolai and Matt Olbrich hooked up on a give and go, with Nicolai benefitting from the pass.
