Josh Westrom scored with thirty five seconds remaining in the third period to give Cherokee JVA a 4-3 victory over Washington Township JVA. With the victory Cherokee moves into the finals against Moorestown for the championship on March 1st at Voorhees Skate Zone at 7:00. Township scored the only two goals of the first period with Nick Bramante scoring both, one short-handed three minutes into the game and the other goal with the period winding down as Cherokee only managed 3 shots in the opening stanza.
Cherokee came alive offensively at the five minute mark of the second period as Anthony Williams put his team on the board and just over two minutes later, on the power play, Cherokee tied the game on a goal by Brandon Nilson. Westrom assisted on both scores. We headed into the third period all square, which is how these two teams played during the regular season as each team won a game and there was one tie. Cherokee snapped the tie as Nilson scored his second goal of the game just over three minutes into the period.
Township scored the tying goal with less than six minutes remaining as Jonathan Smith scored on the power play and once again we were all even at 3-3. That set the stage for Westrom in the final seconds with Nilson and Williams getting the assists. Despite finishing in third place, Cherokee moves on to the Championship.
