TRENTON, N.J., -- The Trenton Devils split a pair of overtime games at home against the Reading Royals and lost on the road to the Elmira Jackals in the previous week. The Devils will host the Wheeling Nailers at home Wednesday night before going on the road for games against the Jackals, Johnstown Chiefs, and Royals.

The Williamstown Junior Varsity squad rallied from a two goal deficit in the third period to upset division leader Washington Township 5-4 in action played at Hollydell on Sunday night. The Braves jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Doug Sanders and Rich Busch in the first eight minutes of the game. Township got one back on a shot from behind the net by Nick Bramante to cut the lead to 2-1. Early in the second period Township got the tie as Zack Astore scored on a blast from the point.

Playing an All-Star game for the first time in years, the South Jersey High School Ice Hockey League put on a dazzling display last night as the North scored a goal with thirty seconds left to snap a 5-5 tie, and hung on for a 6-5 win. Mike Lukis from Holy Cross got the game winner and Kyle Kopervas won the MVP trophy. It was a good showcase for all the talented players in the league and all should hold their heads high as it was an excellent and entertaining game. The North jumped out to a 2-0 lead scoring twice within ten seconds, first Lenny Fox saw his shot from the point find the net for a 1-0 lead, and then Joe Pezzato scored from down low for a 2-0 lead. With the period winding down, Scott Parker put the South on the board right before the buzzer and the deficit was 2-1.

Cherokee opened its playoff run with an easy 8-0 win over West Deptford at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Eight different players scored for the Chiefs as they begin their run towards another championship. Jason Spieker and Brian Slusarz got the only goals of the first period and West Deptford managed only one shot. Jake Ahle made it 3-0 early in the second period and goals by Frank Garvey and Pat Casey less than one minute apart broke the game open at 5-0. West Deptford had one really good scoring opportunity late in the game Luke DeHart had a breakaway, but failed to score. Goals by Mike Ligeikis, Anthony Santisi and Eric Prince rounded out the scoring for Cherokee.

Timber Creek scored seven power play goals and All-Star defenseman Tom Szabo scored five times to lead Timber Creek over Lenape 10-2 in the opening round of the Double Elimination Playoffs last night at Voorhees. Brett Liszewski added a hat trick for Timber Creek. Timber Creek wasted no time as they scored three goals in the first seven minutes all on the power play, two by Szabo and one by Liszewski to lead 3-0. Andrew Dougherty assisted on all three goals. Ryan Phillips put Lenape on the board at the eight minute mark to cut the lead to 3-1, Liszewski got that back three minutes later with a laser shot along the ice. Gus Propper scored on a breakaway on a nice pass from Kyle Young for Lenape and after one period it was 4-2.
