2016-2017 Junior/Senior Showcase

Mike Moss broke a 2-2 game with ten minutes left in the game as Team Simmonds edged Team Giroux 3-2 in last night’s Junior/Senior Showcase game at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Having participated in the last few drafts Coach McKay has never won in this format, and while he wouldn’t admit that it bothered him, I got to believe that the success he has enjoyed over the last 8 years, not winning this game was probably bothering him to a degree. Trailing 2-0 on goals by Kevin Troy of St Joe’s and Zachary Faust of Black Horse, Team Simmonds would get a late goal in the period as Cody Charyk from Shawnee would score with Moss and Vinny Salerno getting the assists.

Team Simmonds would tie the game five minutes into the second period as Cole Dyar from Clearview would get the equalizer and we had a brand new game. Both teams would have scoring opportunities, but failed to finish. Entering the third period Team Simmonds seemed to have the better scoring chances and Salerno set-up Moss for the eventual game winner. With the game winding down Eastern goalie Isaac Bleicher to preserve the game for Coach McKay, who can now add Showcase winner to his resume. Congrats to both teams for an entertaining game and hopefully they showed the local colleges that were in attendance that they can compete at the next level.
